The Perinatal Mental Health Service welcomes applications for the role of Consultant Psychiatrist.
This post contributes to the delivery of Community Perinatal Mental Health Services within Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot, and includes sessional cover to Uned Gobaith, the Regional Mother and Baby Inpatient Service for South Wales.
Main duties of the jobThe Consultant Psychiatrist for Perinatal Mental Health Service duties include:
- Providing evidence based Assessment, diagnosis and treatment to Women/Birthing Individuals at increased risk of, or presenting with, moderate to severe mental illness during the perinatal period.
- Undertaking thorough assessment of risk, preparing risk formulation and management plans for complex and high risk patients.
- Contributing to the safeguarding of Vulnerable groups by practicing in line with All Wales Safeguarding policy. Including the preparation of reports, attending meetings and building positive working relationships with multi-agency colleagues.
- Professional Consultation and Education to professionals working with women/birthing individuals and their families across the perinatal mental health pathway.
Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.
MH & LD services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital, Swansea Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings.
The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales.

Person Specification Professional Registration & Qualification- Registered with the GMC
- On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Psychiatry
- OR eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam
- OR a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB
- OR a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
- Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education
- Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff (
