Consultant Psychiatrist in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (BaNES)

We have two consultant opportunities in our Bath and North East Somerset CAMHS team; 1 full time and 1x 0.6. As a Consultant you will be responsible for supporting your manager in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being. You will have clinical leadership opportunities to develop services across the patch and medical education/ supervision.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant in the team you will join a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality care to young people and families in the CAMHS Bath and North East Somerset in the Getting More Help service. You will also provide medical input to the Neurodevelopmental Clinic.

We deliver the i-Thrive model across BSW, including Mental Health Support Teams in schools and In-Reach services to Social Care. Oxford Health hosts the Thames Valley Provider Collaborative and Forensic CAMHS. Our CAMHS Eating Disorders Service is accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and was the regional pilot site for the national ARFID project. We work closely with our BSW ICB, Local Authorities, NHS providers and Third Sector Partners to transform services for young people up to 25.

Job responsibilities

These posts are substantive Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatry post with the multidisciplinary team in Keynsham, covering CAMHS in Bath and North East Somerset in the Getting More Help service and Neurodevelopmental assessment clinic (NDC). There are also consultants in the team who provides psychiatric input to the Eating Disorders Service (TEDS) and CAMHS Learning Disability service. The team also offer CAMHS Getting Help Services to young people in the area, a Crisis and Home Treatment Service and outreach work for hard to engage young people. There are Mental Health Support Teams in local school and an In-Reach to Bath and North East Somerset Local Authority. We offer a mixed model of treatment with digital and face to face working.

Person Specification Qualifications/Training
  • oEligibility for Section 12 (Mental Health Act 1983) Approval and Approved Clinician status.
  • oEligible for Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Registrar in a psychiatric speciality; OR within six months of achieving registration at the time of interview.
  • oHigher degree/diploma or equivalent in relevant field of medical or psychological studies
  • oHigher specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in approved training post for a minimum of three years and/or previous consultant experience
  • oSub-specialty or other specialist clinical training relevant to post.
  • oMembership or Fellowship of The Royal College of Psychiatrists
Experience
  • oExcellent knowledge in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • oExperience of effective multidisciplinary team working.
  • oExperience of effective multiagency partnership at work.
  • oExperience in management of children and young people with complex needs spanning multiple agencies, with emerging personality disorders, conduct and behavioural problems.
  • oExperience and familiarity with UK health systems and CAMHS services
  • oAbility to undertake full range of Consultant responsibilities.
  • oApplication of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group.
  • oDevelopment of multidisciplinary teamwork, close collaboration with Primary Care services, and working with a multiagency approach, including education, health and social care.
  • oHigh training placement in Adolescent Psychiatry
Skills and Knowledge
  • oAbility to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework, and to share leadership responsibilities with senior colleagues of other professions. The ability to assume a medical leadership role within the team and to work closely with senior managers to implement trust objectives
  • oAbility to understand how organisations work most effectively. oCommitment to multiagency partnership oAbility to promote effective team working oThe ability to prioritise workload and respond in a timely, flexible manner to requests for consultation from colleagues oThe ability to use electronic records and diaries oClinical audit.
  • oMust have excellent skills in communication with patients, relatives/carers, colleagues and staff of other organisations.
  • oExperience of Undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
  • oMust be skilled in professional collaboration.
  • oExperience in supervising basic level psychiatric trainees
  • oMust have an interest in and commitment to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • oHonesty and integrity

  • oFlexibility to cope with service change and demanding clinical challenges
  • oRelevant experience of administrative and management role or senior medical staff.
  • oTeaching qualification.
