Country Medical Director (Senior Director) for Germany and Switzerland

ViiV Healthcare is a global specialist HIV company dedicated to delivering innovative new options for the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS. As the Country Medical Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the medical strategy for Germany and Switzerland, ensuring alignment with global and regional objectives, and leading the medical teams to achieve the highest standards of medical and scientific excellence. A key focus of this role will be to define the unmet medical need of the long-acting HIV treatment and prevention modalities, while also overseeing patient affairs to enhance patient engagement and support.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement the country medical strategy for Germany and Switzerland in alignment with global and regional objectives
  • Provide leadership and direction to the medical teams in Germany and Switzerland, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Drive the long-acting market transformation of HIV treatment, ensuring that innovative long-acting therapies are effectively integrated into clinical practice
  • Represent ViiV Healthcare in interactions with key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, regulatory authorities, and patient advocacy groups

Medical Affairs:

  • Lead the planning and execution of medical activities, including advisory boards, symposia, and scientific exchange meetings
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality medical education and information to healthcare professionals.
  • Support the development and dissemination of clinical and real-world evidence to inform clinical practice and health policy
  • Champion the adoption of long-acting HIV treatments through evidence-based medical communication and education through the appropriate and compliant mechanisms

Clinical Development:

  • Collaborate with global and regional teams to support clinical trial activities, including site selection, recruitment, and study management
  • Provide medical expertise and guidance for local clinical studies and investigator-initiated research

Regulatory and Compliance:

  • Ensure all medical activities comply with local regulations, company policies, and ethical standards
  • Provide medical input and support for regulatory and pharmacological safety data submissions and interactions with health authorities
  • Ensure thorough knowledge and application of German pharmaceutical regulations in all medical activities

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with commercial, market access, and other cross-functional teams to ensure the successful launch and lifecycle management of ViiV Healthcare products
  • Contribute to the development of market access strategies and health economic models
  • Partner with relevant teams to define the unmet need for PLWHIV (People Living with HIV) and PWBP (People Who Benefit from PrEP) for long-acting HIV therapies

Patient Affairs:

  • Lead patient engagement initiatives to ensure the voice of the patient is incorporated into medical strategies and activities
  • Collaborate with patient advocacy groups to support patient education, awareness, and access to innovative treatments
  • Develop and implement patient support programs to enhance the overall patient experience and outcomes

People Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the medical teams in Germany and Switzerland, ensuring the acquisition and retention of top talent
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the teams
Requirements:
  • Medical doctor or PhD degree in any life science discipline is required; experience in the area of HIV highly desirable
  • Significant experience in medical affairs, clinical development, or related roles within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams
  • In-depth knowledge of the HIV therapeutic area and the healthcare environment in Germany and Switzerland
  • Proven experience in driving the adoption of innovative therapies, preferably with long-acting treatments
  • Skilled in German pharmaceutical regulations and compliance
  • Experience in patient engagement and support activities
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in German and English (both written and spoken) is required
