An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced operational manager to join the Trauma Directorate at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The services in this portfolio include Major Trauma, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, and Limb Fitting Services.
This role will work both operationally and strategically across allocated services within the Directorate. There are two Deputy General Manager roles within the Directorate, with an expectation to work closely and cross cover. There may be a requirement to rotate between services to ensure resilience and offer ongoing development opportunities. This role will line manage service and business managers, deputise for the General Manager and will work alongside nursing and medical leadership.
This role is ideal for an existing Deputy General Manager looking to broaden their NHS experience, or a Business Manager aiming to make the next step in their career progression.
Main duties of the job- The post holder will report to the General Manager and will provide appropriate support to the General Manager and the Clinical Director in the delivery of all operational functions in the directorate. The individual will have responsibility for defined services and allocated resources. A specific requirement of this post is to lead the business and service management team.
- Under the Directorate General Manager's leadership, the Deputy General Manager will:
- Be accountable to the General Manager for the operational performance of the directorate's services.
- Lead the directorate's business management team.
- Be accountable for delivery of financial targets for the directorate's services.
- Deputise for the General Manager.

Person Specification EDUCATION- Relevant postgraduate courses or equivalent.
- Experience of managing projects.
- Ability to analyze highly complex problems and situations and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them.
- Ability to manage and deliver to deadlines and within resources.
- Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.
- Excellent IT and financial skills including the ability to create and handle large documents using word processing skills, producing spreadsheets and analysis for presentation at meetings.
- Senior management experience and demonstrable capability and capacity in a complex healthcare environment.
- Demonstrable success in project management.
- Proven success in delivering change and performance improvement.
- Experience of service redesign and development.
- Experience dealing with complex and/or sensitive information and unpredictable situations.
