Location: London
Full-time, 40 hours per week (80% Clinical, 20% Protected Management Time)
Contract Type: Minimum 2-year commitment
Salary: £84,332 - £92,766 dependent on experience

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Deputy Head of Resident Doctors to join a prestigious London-based hospital, known for providing exceptional, patient-centred care. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in overseeing and delivering high-quality care within our Critical Care and ITU units, working within a consultant-led structure.

As Deputy Head of Resident Doctors, you will work closely with the Head of Resident Doctors, taking on clinical and leadership responsibilities to support a dedicated team of Resident Doctors. You will oversee patient care from admission to discharge, coordinate daily rounds, respond to emergencies, and contribute to the continuous development of your team. In this role, you will help ensure that our medical teams maintain the highest standards of patient care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the hospital.

Deputy Head of Resident Doctors - Critical Care

Key Responsibilities:
Support the day-to-day operations in the Critical Care Ward and ITU, managing patient care through the Resident Doctors Team under the guidance of lead Consultants.
Oversee all aspects of patient medical activity, from admission to discharge, ensuring continuity of care.
Lead daily rounds and respond to emergencies, including airway management and other urgent medical needs.
Take responsibility for workforce planning to maintain appropriate patient-to-doctor ratios, ensuring staffing is effective and aligned with patient needs.
Manage rotas, ensuring teams are adequately supported and budgets are met.
Drive quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and operational efficiencies.
Conduct clinical audits, engage in research, and contribute to the standardisation of best medical practices.
Participate in the recruitment, induction, training, and supervision of new Resident Doctors, both permanent and temporary staff.
Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for the Critical Care team, leveraging your expertise in Critical Care to foster team growth and excellence.
In your clinical capacity, work alongside the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the role of a Resident Doctor, providing direct patient care.

Deputy Head of Resident Doctors - Critical Care

What you'll bring:
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Executive master's in medical leadership (EMML) Fellowship or willingness to undertake (funded by the hospital).
A minimum of 5 years' experience in Critical Care or Anaesthetic medical training.
Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, Surgeons, or Anaesthetists, with post-graduate exams completed.
Proven experience in workforce planning, clinical education, and supervision of medical staff.
Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse team, handle employee matters, and support professional development.
