This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an accomplished Commercial Finance Leader to join our thriving business. The Director of Commercial Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the business, focused on driving profitability, value, and long-term financial stability. Acting as both the Revenue Lead and Financial Controller, this role ensures optimal financial performance through strategic planning, revenue management, cost control and financial forecasting.
You will have solid experience of how complex businesses are organised for success and have an ability to translate financial insights into strategic initiatives and business decisions. Your strong leadership and interpersonal skills will support the need to influence at all levels and make consistently sound commercial decisions that drive value.
You will oversee the financial control function, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory standards and be pivotal in the successful financial management and commercial success of the business.
What you'll be doing
- Financial Leadership & Control
- Maintain and evolve financial policies, procedures and controls to safeguard company assets and enhance operational efficiency
- Monitor cashflow, profitability, working capital and liquidity to ensure optimal financial health of the business
- FP&A
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual forecast / budget disciplines (P&L, B.S and CF)
- Ensure there is a rigour to all assumptions and that the business both understands and buys into these
- Ensure that the forecast is used to influence a focus on operational excellence and to drive value
- Ensure all risks and opportunities are known, quantified and managed
- Support the monthly interpretation and reporting to Group and within XD
- Risk Management & compliance
- Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations, tax regulations and internal policies
- Identify, assess and mitigate financial risks, ensuring effective control mechanisms are in place to protect the business
- Work with external auditors and regulatory bodies to manage audits, reporting and compliance requirements
- Ensure there is focus on key business drivers
- Lead the Business Intelligence team to help the business unlock value from data analytics
- Utilize monthly operational meetings to focus on themes that will drive to operational excellence, linking the team by team perspective to the overall business performance (forecast)
- Day-to-day integrity of all Operational Systems and Data Output
- Lead the Business Intelligence Team, ensuring real time data is reliable, accurate and relevant and that routine reports are produced (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually)
- Develop a roadmap for the evolution of our key business tools
- Work with the business to introduce new ways of looking at data, new routines to create accountability and to drive continuous improvement
- Work with our Senior Business Analyst to evolve how the different tools link together, and drive to make it easier to produce data following through on our ambition to utilize Power BI (or any new development such as the use of AI)
What you'll need to have
- A Finance or Business professional level qualification
- A track record of driving value by engaging and influencing the wider business to push to operational excellence
- Deep experience of FP&A in complex organisations
- A solid foundation of working in a Finance function (strong accounting knowledge - experience in the whole range of reporting and transactional activities including external and internal audits)
- A track record of unlocking value from data analytics within a project-based environment
- A business savvy approach with experience to add value to business decisions across many disciplines
- An approachable team player with strong communication skills to have influence across the organisation
- A track record of getting behind the strategies of businesses and providing competitive insights
- An ability to retain a sense of humour even when things are not straightforward
- A highly organised approach combined with an ability to take the complex and make it simple!
