Job Description
Director of Transformation and Improvement North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust

This role will support the embedment of the Patient First Management System which goes beyond a quality improvement methodology and is 'the way we do business' at North Mid. The post holder will provide recognised expertise to the Trust, and lead the further development of the Trust's continuous improvement journey.

Main duties of the job

On behalf of the Chief Executive, the post holder will have responsibility for the development and leadership of North Middlesex University Hospitals management system, including both the day-to-day delivery, and shaping the vision and development of the programme into the future state. The post holder will be an integral part of the senior leadership team supporting the Executive of the Trust, work closely with Finance, Workforce, Performance, Planning and Operational Service leads to develop and execute the Trust's delivery plans and service changes.

Job responsibilities

Key Result Areas:

  1. Lead the implementation of the Patient First management system at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust.
  2. Establish and oversee the infrastructure, team and framework to support an expert improvement team within the organisation.
  3. Take the organisational lead for key major transformation and improvement projects, where the complexity and/or cross organisational impact requires senior and experienced leadership to ensure delivery.
  4. Lead on the development, progress reporting, and oversight of the Patient First management system established within the Trust on behalf of the CEO.
  5. Contribute to the design and implementation of a Continuous Improvement function within North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust.
  6. Maintain and further develop the training programme for improvement methodology from Board to ward to ensure its use in all aspects of trust work.
  7. Work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of the organisation acting as a subject matter expert and advising the Executive on continuous improvement developments, plans, industry thinking, healthcare developments and partnerships.
  8. Deliver highly complex messages, some of which may be of a highly sensitive and contentious nature.
  9. Deliver presentations and Continuous Improvement training on ways of working to large groups, including subject matter expertise and coaching on Improvement techniques.
  10. Regularly interact with other Director colleagues, Service leads, and Corporate Heads of Departments to agree areas for improvement and communicate trend identification and ongoing project and process improvement updates.
  11. Assist clinical and operational leadership teams in building an engaged workforce that utilises all Trust staff skills to drive results towards organisational goals.
  12. Work with the organisational development team to embed a culture of continuous improvement across North Middlesex based on the Patient First management system.
  13. Identify and develop communication tools which serve to engage employees and create continuous improvement opportunities and conversation at all levels in the Trust.
  14. Act as a subject matter expert and champion continuous improvement methodologies across all functional areas in the Trust.
  15. Provide direct coaching to improvement practitioners within the Trust to deliver successful projects and achieve certifications.
  16. Deliver stand-alone Improvement training as part of the overall Trust approach to building capability.
