Job Description

Reporting to

Nursery Manager ensuring that the highest standards of childcare and education are always maintained.

Main Duties

  • To deliver and ensure a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years.
  • To support the Senior Early Years' Practitioner with the daily running of the room.
  • To ensure the room and resources are safe and appropriate for children, staff, and others.
  • To implement and adhere to a consistent daily routine both indoors and outdoors ensuring high quality teaching and learning experiences are always offered to children.
  • To demonstrate current knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and that you comply with all areas of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • To develop partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child's development.
  • To take on the role of being a key person, observing, assessing, and planning for each individual child.

General responsibilities

  • To support the Senior Early Years' Practitioner with the effective daily running of your room.
  • Promote a warm and understanding relationship between staff, children, and parents in a stable, relaxed, and secure atmosphere.
  • Encourage children in self-help, personal hygiene, and acceptable social behaviour in a positive way.
  • Complete Medicine, Accident and Injury on Arrival forms as required by the 1989 Children's Act.
  • Abide by the Trafford Guidelines & the Statutory Framework for the Early Years on Safeguarding Children together with Elmscot's Safeguarding Policy; ensuring you have an understanding that safeguarding is everybody's responsibility and that you have a duty to act accordingly & report any concerns.
  • Report any matters of concern regarding children, staff, or parents to the Nursery Manager/ Deputy To have a sound knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • To act as an excellent role model to the staff team and children.
  • To take responsibility for excellent hygiene, health and safety and security practice within the Nursery.
  • To play a part in planning and providing appropriate daily activities in line with guidance from the EYFS for your key children.
  • Maintain the children's equipment and playrooms, ensuring that the rooms are safe and clean to meet the needs of each individual child.
  • To uphold the highest level of safeguarding practice and ensure Company policies and procedures are always adhered to.
  • To carry out observation, assessment, and planning in your room, with your key children, ensuring all children are making progress.
  • Work as an effective team member being flexible with working practices including being prepared to help throughout the nursery where necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing training for personal and professional development.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training and the development of Nursery policies and procedures.
  • On completion of the health and safety induction, ensure that you always adhere to all health and safety regulations including the identification of risks and reporting any concerns to the Health & Safety co-ordinator.
  • To work with outside professionals where required.
  • To work closely with parents and create trusting relationships with all families.
  • To work as part of a team within your room and within the wider setting.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Minimum level 3 in early years or equivalent Knowledge of the Early Years' Sector Good standard of English and Maths at GCSE ideally 7-4 or equivalent

Relevant Experience & Skills (Essential)

  • Experience of working in a nursery or similar environment
  • Experience of being a key person Some knowledge of the Early Years' Foundation Stage Experience of working in a team

Personal Style & Behaviour (Essential)

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with staff, children, and parents

Other Skills (Essential)

  • Able to use written English to write reports and keep clear and accurate records Basic Administrative and IT skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team Ability to work under pressure
  • Able to work on own initiative Calm and caring nature Empathy and understanding of children under 5 years old
  • Reliable Enthusiastic Flexible
