Job Description
Job vacancy: Engineering / Technical Director

Location: Head Office, Enfield, Middlesex

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering / Technical Director to join our Head Office team in Enfield, Middlesex. To be considered, you will come from a Civil Engineering Background.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Working with the team to ensure the delivery teams (Planning, Design, Bid Reviews, Temporary Works, Document Control, and Business Development) are suitably skilled and experienced to deliver a first-class service.
  • Encouraging engineering innovation and value engineering during the design and construction process to reduce site-based construction activity. Sharing and capturing innovation / VE across the business.
  • Managing the Design Managers outputs and standards, undertaking peer reviews.
  • Producing and maintaining Design Standards to meet the business needs. Advising, selecting, and appointing designers on D&B schemes. Reviewing design novation agreements and successfully facilitating appointment of designers.
  • Providing technical expertise across all projects and tenders in supporting issues such as design problems, temporary works problems, etc.
  • Setting a standard for planning output across the business ensuring they are compliant with the Form of Contract.
  • Mentoring planners and reviewing output and holding regular meetings with the Planning Team.
  • At tender stage undertaking a pre-settlement review and challenge of programmes. Reviewing company planning reports (monthly including real forecast final finish dates). Carrying out bid reviews including tender settlements.
  • Ensuring Temporary Works are captured at bid stage by planner/bid lead and costed and programmed accordingly.
  • Reviewing Temporary Works procedures, management, and coordination across all projects.
  • Mentoring Temporary Works Coordinators.
  • Appointment and allocations of Temporary Works designers and monitoring performance. 'Designated Individual' appointed to manage the business's procedures for Temporary Works. Reviewing the Document control process across all projects to assist the site in delivery.
  • Helping and assisting the site team in establishing a Utility Tracker for monitoring the liaison, coordination, and implementation of Utility/Statutory Undertakers works.
  • Responsible for the hiring process and restructuring to provide an efficient and talented workforce for the relevant functions.
  • Leading in ensuring that the company has the required Quality and Technical accreditation and leading on appropriate Audits when required.
  • Undertaking other duties commensurate with the level of this position.
  • Complying with Company policies & procedures.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and decisions.
  • Highly experienced leader with a track record of leading, coordinating, and developing large teams across geographical locations.
  • Experience in working within a multi-disciplined team.
  • Familiarity with resource planning, management and mobilisation, business development, and tendering.
  • Experience in client and stakeholder management.
  • Understanding market analysis to identify opportunities to make informed business decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer (member of a professional institution).
