Job ID: Amazon Web Services Singapore Private Limited

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

We are looking for a dynamic and skilled person to join our existing APAC environmental due diligence and environmental permitting team. Based in Singapore, this role will involve leading on multiple regions and sites in-development. Our scale of growth and success means that this is a fast-paced role and critical to AWS's ongoing success!

Key job responsibilities

  1. Prepare environmental permits and applications for time-critical submission to governmental agencies and regulators.
  2. Manage third-party consultant deliverables and quality for critical environmental disciplines: air permits, EIAs, natural heritage/biodiversity and cultural heritage assessments;
  3. Lead on environmental due diligence reviews (contaminated site management, remediation, initial environmental risk analysis, site screening, site approvals);
  4. Undertake regulatory, authority and agency negotiation;
  5. Collaborate with key internal AWS teams (Real Estate, Risk & Resiliency, Design Engineering, Legal, Construction).

A day in the life

A typical day involves managing many site-development projects all at various stages of development. Some will be at the due diligence stage so work would involve reviewing due diligence reports and identifying risks and mitigations needed for site acquisition. Other projects will be in design and permitting and work for this involves managing environmental studies (such as air and noise modelling, biodiversity studies) and working with our consultants to prepare environmental permit applications to regulatory approval. We work very closely with partner teams such as Real Estate, Risk/Due Diligence, Design Engineering and Legal. The role is very dynamic and managing multiple projects with minimal manager oversight is a key skill.

About the team

You will sit in the APAC Infrastructure-Development (InfraDev) team within the global Environmental organization of AWS. We are responsible for environmental due diligence, permitting and approvals for all new AWS sites in Asia-Pacific. We are a small, global team but highly effective. We manage multiples of projects in APAC and are always innovating in how we complete our work. It's a great role in a dynamic team that is at the forefront of AWS.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's Degree in environmental engineering, science, or related field of study.
  2. Experience in obtaining environmental permits in APAC for project development and the management of consultant deliverables and quality.
  3. Experience of permit evaluations and applications.
  4. Experience in environmental Impact Assessments, biodiversity integration, water discharge requirements, and waste management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experienced in managing and delivering multiple sites/locations in APAC at any one point in time.
  2. Highly autonomous and can work with minimal guidance with excellent organizational and project management skills.
  3. Experience in a fast-paced, changing/growing organization.
  4. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability across multiple jurisdictions.
  5. Travel estimated at 20% in APAC to visit potential sites and sites subject to design and permitting.
