EU Transport Policy - Principal Consultant

Role Summary
We are looking to recruit a Principal Consultant with a strong interest in transport policy and track record in policy analysis, including impact assessment and evaluations for the EU institutions. We are particularly interested in individuals with a track record of working on assignments for the following European Commission DGs: MOVE, CLIMA, ENV, GROW, RTD and EU agencies: EMSA, ERA, EASA.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and contributing written content and technical analysis for the preparation of reports
- Leading and contributing to the development of proposals for new work
- Carrying out a wide range of stakeholder consultation activities
- Leading project teams in the delivery of specific project tasks or whole projects
- Working effectively as a team member on a range of projects
- Senior-level expert quality assurance and technical review of project deliverables
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector technology developments, trends, challenges and regulations
- Manage, supervise and coach junior members of the team to help them achieve their full potential
Key Competencies and Experience
- A first or upper second-class BSc (or Masters/PhD)
- Previous experience in consultancy is essential. Experience of working on or managing European Commission consultancy project is highly desirable. Experience in UK Government consultancy projects will also be an asset.
- Experience of working in line with the EU's Better Regulation Guidelines is highly desirable
- Experience in the analysis of economic, environmental and social impacts of EU legislation on transport issues is highly desirable
- Knowledge of European climate and transport policies such as those included in the Fit for 55 package is desirable
Desirable Competencies and Experience
- Familiarity with policy evaluation and economic analysis methods and tools including Cost Benefit Analysis.
- Experience in managing complex consultancy projects.
- Fluency in English is essential, fluency in other EU languages.
- Experience in developing quantitative scenarios and models.
Skills and behaviours:
- A strong interest in transport policy is highly desirable
- Excellent report-writing skills and verbal communication skills
- Effective and proactive team worker, capable of supporting and developing peers and other staff members
- Strong data analysis skills are also desirable (for example, using Excel, R or Python).
- Excellent time management with the ability to juggle time across multiple projects and prioritise deadlines seamlessly.
