Job overviewThe department of gastroenterology of University Hospitals Sussex is seeking two Fixed Term Consultant appointments for a period of 12 months.
Our close-knit and enthusiastic team is passionate about delivering high-quality and innovative gastroenterology care across all sub-specialties and would welcome interest from potential candidates.
The post would suit a recently completed NTN candidate seeking a stepping stone to a substantive consultant appointment or an established consultant between jobs seeking a shorter-term commitment in a welcoming environment.
The post holder will work predominantly at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and also support services in The Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.
You will join us during an exciting period in our organisation's evolution following the recent mergers that created University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust, now the fifth biggest Trust in England. University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust also hosts Brighton and Sussex Medical School. The Royal Sussex County Hospital is also a training site for the regional Endoscopy Training Academy, founded in 2022 within our Trust.
Main duties of the job- Support the department of Gastroenterology in providing outpatient clinics and endoscopic procedures within Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath.
- Work across both sites dependent upon clinical need to support outpatient clinics, endoscopy, and reviews of Gastroenterology inpatients.
- Full participation in the endoscopy out of hours on-call rota and the Gastroenterology ward rota.
- Outpatient services in University Hospitals Sussex at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.
- Endoscopy provision - predominantly diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy as well as GI bleeding therapeutics; other therapeutic skills and interests are also welcomed.
- Rotational commitment to the provision of care on our gastroenterology inpatient unit in Royal Sussex County Hospital.
- Rotational commitment to the out of hours GI bleed rota and weekend gastroenterology inpatient unit.
- Support any sub-specialty interests of an enthusiastic candidate which complement the existing consultant body.
- Share in the cohesive, professional, and patient-centred approach of the existing department.

Person specification Experience / Qualifications- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 12 months of starting fixed term post.

- JAG accredited diagnostic and therapeutic upper/lower endoscopy.
- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
