Job Description

This is the perfect role for an experienced operational manager who wants to gain experience in an acute and specialist portfolio.

In this role, you will be based at the St. Mary's Hospital site and will be working as part of the St. Mary's Acute and Specialist Medicine triumvirate team to lead a service of 460 WTE staff and £28.5 million delivery against quality, financial, performance and strategic objectives. To excel in this role, you will already have proven operational management experience and a solid grounding in leading a complex service and team.

This role will be ideally suited for individuals with a good grounding in operational management looking to develop and spend more time on strategic programmes alongside the day to day.

You will have strong skills in communication and relationship management with a range of internal and external stakeholders and a proven track record of managing competing demands while delivering complex programmes of work against a plan and to a deadline.

We will be holding a stakeholder assessment in the morning and an interview panel in the afternoon of the 22nd of October.

Main duties of the job

As the General Manager you will:

  • Be accountable for the operational performance of the Directorate. This will include accountability for the delivery of high quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality, and delivery of financial targets.
  • Have joint responsibility with the other Directorate General Managers and members of the Divisional management team for driving forward divisional wide programmes of work and service direction linked to finance, operational performance and quality.
  • Work closely with the Divisional Director of Operations to implement the objectives for the directorate.

Person Specification Education/ Qualifications
  • First degree or equivalent.
  • Evidence of other specialist knowledge at higher degree or Masters level.
  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up to date knowledge of patient services.
  • Evidence of CPD.
Experience
  • Significant experience within the Healthcare sector at General Manager level or equivalent manager including responsibility for strategic planning and budgetary control for a group of complex medical/surgical specialities
  • Demonstrable success in delivering large scale change and performance with and through management and clinical teams.
  • Experience of managing and deciding on complex employment issues.
  • Experience of writing complex business cases and policies
  • Experience of senior operational management experience within urgent & emergency medicine pathways
  • Ability to participate in 24 hour on-call management rota.
Ability/ Skills
  • Ability to build successful teams.
  • Highly developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve staff to meet challenging targets including individuals and teams in partnership organisations.
  • Able to work visibly, and to roll model active engagement to support change.
  • Able to develop effective networks, and to work in partnership with others to deliver and improve services.
