Job Description

HARDWARE ENGINEER - GHENT (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION

We are currently recruiting a Hardware Engineer to drive the development of high-performance, reliable, and regulatory-compliant medical devices.

In this role, you will play a critical role in the entire hardware development lifecycle-from initial concept and design to prototyping, testing, and manufacturing.

You will be responsible for designing advanced electronic circuits and PCBs, integrating custom and off-the-shelf ASICs, and ensuring the hardware meets stringent medical industry standards.

Your work will directly contribute to the development of innovative, life-saving technologies, including diagnostic tools, wearable medical devices, and next-generation healthcare solutions.

As part of a multidisciplinary R&D team, you will collaborate with firmware, software, mechanical, and biomedical engineers to create seamless, integrated medical solutions. You will also work closely with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure the highest quality components and compliance with industry regulations.

This is a hands-on role that requires a deep understanding of electronic design principles, medical device requirements, and hardware verification techniques. You will be involved in testing and validating designs in a laboratory environment, troubleshooting complex hardware issues, and iterating on prototypes to optimize performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop medical-grade PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards), including schematic capture and layout.
  • Select and integrate ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) into medical devices.
  • Ensure signal integrity, power management, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in electronic designs.
  • Work with firmware and software teams to enable seamless system integration.
  • Conduct ASIC verification, including simulation, validation, and debugging.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure regulatory compliance (IEC 60601, FDA, CE).
  • Perform hardware validation and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment.
  • Support design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for testability (DFT) initiatives.
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to source reliable electronic components.
  • Ensure compliance with medical device regulations for component selection and production.
  • Support manufacturing teams in the assembly and testing of electronic modules.
  • Develop and refine hardware prototypes for new medical device concepts.
  • Work closely with R&D teams to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies to drive innovation in medical electronics.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in PCB design using tools like Altium, KiCad, or Cadence.
  • Strong understanding of ASIC integration and verification.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping and debugging.
  • Knowledge of medical device safety standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, FDA regulations).
  • Experience with signal integrity, power electronics, and embedded systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a regulated and high-quality environment.

The Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Work on life-saving medical technology that makes a real impact.
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Opportunities for career growth and continuous learning.
