Do you have experience in a healthcare environment? Are you computer literate with knowledge of hospital IT systems? Then our Housekeeper opportunity may be what you are looking for. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Male Respiratory ward at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

Ward 14 is a nurse-led unit based in the medicine division within the hospital. The ward ensures that patients are seen and treated in an environment most appropriate for their needs as well as facilitating a more efficient discharge process. The unit will work closely with therapists, supporting patients with their continuing needs before they are safely discharged to lower levels of care in the community

The post holder will provide excellent customer care that demonstrates a caring and responsive approach to those attending the hospital. you should enjoy communicating with a wide range of people, be highly organised and have a flexible approach to work. Attention to detail and good organisation are essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of patient facility services within the ward area, ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment. The main elements of the post are to ensure the delivery of cleaning, catering and ancillary services for patients, to monitor the quality standards, reporting deficiencies and appropriate actions to the Senior Nurse. The post-holder will work as part of the team carrying out tasks as specified by the Nurse in Charge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Cleaning

To assist in the monitoring and maintaining of cleaning standards on the ward including the maintenance of the cleaning logs.

To ensure equipment such as drip stands, commodes and trolleys are cleaned as per policy.

Catering

To participate in the mealtime process, assisting patients where required.

To prepare drinks and hot snacks i.e. toast for patients as requested taking into account individual patients requirements.

Maintaining the environment

To monitor service delivery of cleaning and catering within the ward environment, reporting deficiencies and agreeing actions with the Nurse in Charge.

To ensure any defects are recorded, reported and closed when resolved, liaising with the Estates help desk as appropriate.

Working practices and relationships

To receive, welcome and assist visitors to the area, liaising with other staff as appropriate.

To transport equipment, consumables and written instructions as requested.
