Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) relies on a wide range of technologies. In the new position of Lead DevOps Engineer for our Cloud Platforms, you will help to shape our new ways of working to support and develop national systems that support CTP operations to keep the country safe.

If you want to contribute to something that matters, this could be the role for you. Using your technical leadership skills you will help to lead and develop a new team of DevOps engineers responsible for the support and development of our cloud platforms. You will also be a key player in embedding agile and DevOps ways of working, across the team and other stakeholders, whilst supporting and improving business as usual operations alongside project delivery teams. With your skills, we can make sure that critical systems are available and secure so CTP can operate at its best.

Working flexibly, as required, from home, our operations centre located east of Birmingham (with easy access from the M6 and M42) or from our London based HQ. You'll be part of our Customer Service Centre (CSC) team providing technical support for all our national services. Please note this role may require a future on-call support commitment.

Day to day, you'll manage the team's technical workloads, prioritising issues with the senior engineers and escalating them as necessary. We'll expect you to meet key standards, SLAs, best practice and security procedures, so you'll need to be experienced with agile leadership in technically diverse enterprise environments.

As a skilled lead DevOps Engineer, you'll possess an excellent understanding of cloud platform technologies and security, preferably with Microsoft Azure/365 and AWS Platforms. You should be technically creative and confident to make decisions as the technical platform owner and able to explain technical requirements to stakeholders who may not be technically literate.

As this is a new team we will be developing new ways of working and you should be keen to learn and develop both technical and supporting skills as required. Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code via Terraform would be beneficial as would any other relevant support or development experience.

This is a flexible role with home and office working available dependent on business needs.

There may be occasional travel to other UK sites for business purposes and overnight accommodation will be provided when required. We promote a positive work life balance but occasionally a flexible approach to working hours is essential due to the nature of the role.

Discover a fascinating role that is at the heart of protecting the UK public. In return, you can look forward to other benefits including generous annual leave, Civil Service pension arrangements, flexible working conditions, a formal training plan and training options.
