Job DescriptionAs Legal Counsel, you will provide legal, regulatory, and data protection advice to Mobilize Financial Services (MFS) and relevant entities. You will advise and support business projects and other stakeholders. You will be part of a dynamic and supportive Legal Department, which also includes the Company Secretary and Corporate Governance function and forms part of the broader Risk Department. Reporting to the General Counsel, your responsibilities will include general legal advice, contract drafting, reviews and negotiations, project support, data protection advice, horizon scanning for legal developments and general legal risk management. You will also provide corporate governance and secretariat services to the Board of Directors of MFS and its related entities.
What you will do:
Your role will focus on supporting stakeholders including commercial departments and taking ownership of drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, managing stakeholder relationships, and representing the legal function as a valued and respected business partner. You should be proactive, solutions-driven, and comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Acting as the legal point of contact for colleagues, it is essential to maintain professionalism and confidence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing general legal and data protection advice for new projects, products, and services.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts with suppliers and third parties.
- Managing the contracts database to ensure secure storage and accessibility.
- Identifying and implementing new legal, regulatory, and data protection changes.
- Supporting the development of business-critical projects and commercial objectives.
- Assessing and managing legal, regulatory, and data protection risks.
- Reviewing product specifications and business documentation.
- Drafting and implementing policies and procedures for legal, regulatory, and data protection matters.
- Offering general legal, regulatory, and data protection advice to departments and stakeholders.
- Providing first-line support for legal, regulatory, and data protection queries.
- Supporting data protection requirements, including impact assessments and breach reporting.
- Contributing to data privacy committees and providing business updates.
- Horizon scanning to keep abreast of legal, data protection and regulatory principles, cascading and implementing across the business, as required.
- Developing the governance framework, maintaining statutory records, and handling Companies House filings.
- Prepare and manage Board/Committee meetings, including board papers, agendas and minutes.
What you will do:
- Qualified to practice as a Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales with a minimum of 2 years PQE, but relevant experience will be considered.
- Preferably, you have in-house experience in financial services, insurance, or legal, regulatory, and data protection sectors although this is not essential.
- Preferably, you will have previous experience in providing secretariat services.
- Strong communication, legal drafting, interpersonal skills and confident in assessing complex situations and making robust decisions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise workload and adhere to business requirements, timescales, and deadlines.
- Demonstrate sound legal and commercial judgment and can build robust relationships with stakeholders and suppliers.
- Ideally, you will have financial services legal, regulatory and data protection experience including the Financial Conduct Authority, the Prudential Regulation Authority, Information Commissioner's Office and Financial Ombudsman Service.
