Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an Interest in Allergy

We are seeking a highly skilled, exceptional and enthusiastic candidate to join the paediatric and adolescent team at University College London Hospital (UCLH) from February 2025 for a locum post (to cover maternity leave) for 1 year as Consultant General Paediatrician with an interest in Allergy (10 PAs).

Main duties of the jobThe post holder will join our comprehensive allergy service. The allergy team is made up of 3 consultants, 2 dieticians and 2 clinical nurse specialists who deliver care to 2000 patients per year. The service is supported by out-patient and day-care nurses and health care assistants and play specialists. There are a variety of allergy clinics including general, adolescent, difficult eczema, rhinology and early prevention. We run 1,000 in-hospital food challenge and drug provocation tests per year and provide sub-cutaneous and sub-lingual pollen immunotherapy.
In addition to the allergy work, the post holder will contribute to the general service, attending and acute paediatric rota. The general paediatric team includes 14 paediatricians (10.6 WTE). Most participate in a consultant-of-the-week attending service, general paediatric clinics and participate in a 1:10 on-call.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications- Eligible for full GMC Registration
- On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attainment of CST in Paediatrics at date of interview
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- APLS provider
- A higher degree, MSc, MD, PhD, or equivalent, ideally with relevance to Allergy
- Broad experience in general and emergency paediatrics including ED, inpatient, acute ambulatory and outpatient settings.
- Safeguarding training Level 3
- Experience in a clinical subspecialty
- Experience in safeguarding
- Clear interest in and experience of allergy
- Experience in a tertiary subspecialty service, ideally Allergy
- Ability to manage all common paediatric emergencies and acute illnesses.
- Ability to manage paediatric allergy and atopic disease
- Good knowledge of general paediatrics
- Knowledge and experience of local national safeguarding policies
- RCPCH Allergy SPIN module or equivalent Allergy training/accreditation
- Evidence of leadership ability and commitment to clinical governance
- Range of quality improvement projects in the past 3 years
- Competent in a range of IT skills
- Experience in a range of teaching techniques at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Previous leadership role
- Experience leading projects between organisations
- Postgraduate teaching degree or diploma
- Research experience
