Job Description

This is principally an abdominal radiologist post involving cross-sectional reporting, general ultrasound incorporating core biopsy, insertion of drains, as well as contribution to a regional Abdominal and Retroperitoneal Sarcoma MDT, including helping to support the biopsy service for this service. There will also be an acute CT imaging session at least once a week.

The successful candidate will also be expected to take an active part in the training of Specialist Registrars on their rotation through the department.

The Trust has successfully introduced radiographer and sonographer skill-mix in a number of areas including I.V. contrast injections. Supervision of radiographer extended roles may be required.

This is a full-time post and incorporates 9 PAs of direct patient care based on a 10 PA contract. Flexibility in association with service needs will be required on a weekly basis in line with an annualised hours framework. The appointee will support clinical colleagues in offering a comprehensive imaging service for the trust and our patients. The timetable of activities will be agreed with the Clinical Director of Radiology before taking up the post. Sample timetables of activities are available on request.

This is principally an abdominal radiology post to include abdominal Sarcoma Reporting, general interventional ultrasound obtaining core biopsy, insertion of drains, and Sarcoma MDT involvement. There will also be an acute imaging/duty radiology component to the job incorporating general body inpatient and emergency department cross-sectional reporting (neuroradiology, including general CT heads, are reported by a separate neuroradiology service).

The post is subject to the terms and conditions of a Locum Consultant contract as supplemented by the Trust's own terms and conditions.

The appointee will be expected to work within the facilities available to the Imaging Department and any new service developments are subject to the provision of necessary resources within the Trust. There is an active appraisal and development programme and all consultant staff will take part in this process.

The post holder must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and is advised to maintain up-to-date membership of a recognised medical defence organisation. The appointee will be required to live within a distance that allows them safely to fulfil their clinical commitments as agreed with the Medical Director.

The successful candidate is expected to be aware of local policies and procedures and comply with the standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trust.

Consultant appointments are made to the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust as a whole; as services are developed and changed, the base of posts may alter and any employee of the Trust will be expected, within an agreed clinical strategy, to move their sessions as the service requires. In particular, your attention is drawn to the fact that the post advertised may include routine evening and weekend working as part of the working arrangements. The specific scheduling of such activities would be subject to mutual agreement and may be agreed at a later date in the future.

Person Specification Qualifications

Full GMC Registration

Current member of the GMC Specialist register in clinical radiology

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development including CME

RCR Fellowship or equivalent

Subspecialty training in Abdominal Imaging

Abdominal Fellowship
