Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Physics & Electron Optics Engineering to join our world-class team in the Research and Development organization. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a team of engineers in Eindhoven and Brno with a strong background of delivering innovative solutions.
Responsibilities:
Lead a team of multidisciplinary Physics & Electron Optics engineers, working on development of electron optical modules
Stimulate effective usage of digital tools, through analytical modelling capabilities and computational physics
Ensure deliverables quality through review mechanisms, define group's quality attitude
Collaborate and support architecture group in development of technology roadmap
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, encouraging a culture of continuous learning and professional development
Provide leadership to align engineering with business goals. Run the yearly cycle of competence management assessments, defining strategies to support upcoming trends and address identified gaps. This includes responsibilities for goal settings, performance evaluations, attracting new talent, and organization of trainings.
Supervise the delivery of the team member's work within agreed budget, schedule, and quality guidelines. Provide effort estimations and collaborate with Program/Project managers to allocate team members to programs/projects requiring support. Ensure the team's output meets high-quality standards and take accountability for deliverables.
Foster collaboration with other R&D Engineering leaders to align strategies, standards, tooling, and ways of working. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize processes, and enhance engineering capabilities (for instance MBE, DFSS, test automation, AI for non-SW people, etc.).
Connect with industrial partners, knowledge centres and universities on the development of new concepts or modules to support our product roadmap
Foster cooperation with cross-functional teams and external partners to drive innovation and remain at the forefront of (test) engineering advancements. Stimulate patent application submissions and secure IP generation and protection.
Manage relationships with key technology vendors and contractor agencies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex engineering projects.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
- High learning agility and understand high complex business & products.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
