The Life Sciences R&D department consists of around 250 engineers who are developing Electron Microscopy solutions and applications, to enable our customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and safer. The teams are located in Eindhoven (NL), Brno (CZ) and Bordeaux (FR), and they are a mix of hardware engineers, software developers and applications developers. The growth of our R&D team has opened up an opportunity for a dedicated software engineering manager, who will lead a team of 10 -15 diverse and cross-cultural software engineers based in Eindhoven.

As part of Thermo Fisher Scientific you will develop and grow your software team to support our digital science vision. You will provide career coaching, break down barriers and encourage your team in collaborating with other groups to achieve our vision. You will play a crucial role in supporting and facilitating the adoption of software engineering best practices.

Responsibilities:

• Align engineering with business goals by managing competence assessments, defining strategies to address gaps, setting goals, evaluating performance, attracting new talent, and coordinating training.
• Empower and develop the software development team within the Agile framework, coaching and mentoring team members, encouraging professional growth, and promoting self-organization.
• Coordinate all aspects of team delivery within budget, schedule, and quality guidelines. Provide effort estimations and collaborate with product owners and project managers to prioritize resources effectively, ensuring high-quality output and accountability for deliverables.
• Collaborate with the SQA Manager and Software Test Architect to identify key areas for test automation and coordinate the implementation of the test strategy.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize processes, and improve engineering capabilities.
• Foster cooperation with cross-functional teams and external partners to drive innovation and remain at the forefront of software engineering advancements.
• Manage relationships with key technology vendors and contractor agencies.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in software engineering or a related field is required.
• 5-10 years of work experience in software engineering.
• Ability to make data-driven decisions.
• High learning agility and understanding of complex business and products.
