What you'll be doing

This is a high-impact role, and we're looking for a Managing Director for our German, Bafin-registered entity, responsible for our business in DACH + CEE. This is a truly generalist role, spanning commercial to credit risk, and we're looking for an entrepreneurial and outcome-oriented individual to drive our success.

  • Own the P&L, from revenue through to credit risk and the bottom line, for the region to ensure our growth and profitability goals are met. Proactively identify areas for growth, working globally to ensure these best practices are understood and adopted.
  • Embody our "Merchants Matter Most" company behavior and develop a deep understanding of SME's needs and the product & proposition required to best serve them today and in the future. Ensure that the plan is understood and supported across the organisation.
  • Create and own the region's budget and commercial plan, collaborating with the central Finance and Commercial teams.
  • Track performance against goals, ensuring the drivers of results are understood and communicated back to the commercial team and wider Liberis business (e.g. Partnerships, Product and Finance teams).
  • Directly manage the regional sales team, building a culture of high performance - resulting in strong sales conversion as well as opportunities for personal growth.
  • As part of your broader commercial responsibility for the region, you will play a key role in coordinating and influencing the broader teams responsible for delivering commercial results, including:
    • Targeting, Pricing & Marketing
    • Enterprise Sales + Partner Management
    • Customer Operations
    • Risk Management
  • Take the lead on building the local company culture, incorporating the best of Liberis' winning company culture in other regions. Do this by mobilising the cross-functional regional team, through living our company values, team building activities and much more.
  • Champion Liberis externally in your region, representing the company within the tech and fintech industry and beyond, helping to build our brand including the employer brand.

What you'll need to be successful

We don't expect you to meet every single requirement

  • German resident, fluent in both German and English
  • Degree or vocational training in relevant field (e.g. economics or financial services)
  • Proven General Management and people leadership experience (we anticipate this to be roughly 7+ years) within fintech / financial services. Familiar with risk management, credit decisioning and monitoring.
  • Have experience as either:
    • Regulatory MD (Geschäftsleiter) or comparable senior level management for fully-licensed alternative investment funds managers ("AIFMs"), preferably German full-scope AIFM for a minimum of three years; OR
    • Senior level management at fully-licensed AIFMs or otherwise asset management-related companies or other regulated entities, for example, banks engaged in loan origination and administration
  • Demonstrable track record in scaling a scale-up and/or building a new product - including testing new product features and new product positioning.
  • You're accountable. You want to own the outcome and positively shape our most important metrics. You have a positive track record of optimising revenue streams, leading projects, hitting commercial goals, and succeeding in a team environment.
  • You can navigate around a P&L. You have the financial literacy to set financial budgets and plans, alongside (and sometimes challenge) the Finance team.
  • You know how to create a high-trust environment and help individuals grow. You provide ongoing constructive, actionable feedback for your team and fostering an open climate for communication.
  • You're relentless and humble. You roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to make things successful. You're equally comfortable operating at 10,000 feet and 1 foot. You don't hesitate to get in the weeds and operate at the lowest level of detail, but you're just as comfortable thinking long-term and inspiring a team. No job is beneath you.
  • Data-driven mindset. You let data win arguments. You have strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and insights.
  • You solve problems from first principles. You're excited to solve problems in innovative ways, and you resist "this is how it's always been done" thinking. You use this to craft exciting strategies.
  • You can work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing market conditions.

What happens next?

Think this sounds like the right next move for you? Or if you're not completely confident that you fit our exact criteria, apply anyway and we can arrange a call to see if the role is fit for you. Humility is a wonderful thing, and we are interested in hearing about what you can add to Liberis!
