Markets Director

Our client is a general insurance broker who is backed by a major private equity group. They have embarked on a new phase of strategic growth following several recent acquisitions and a number in the pipeline. As part of this expansion, they are seeking a highly experienced Markets Director to lead strategic relationships, drive growth, and enhance profitability across our client's mid-market general insurance operations. This role is critical in managing both external and internal stakeholders, ensuring regulatory compliance, and aligning the company's broking and markets strategy with its ambitious growth objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in the UK insurance market, a strong technical understanding of niche and commercial lines, and the ability to deliver innovative, data-driven solutions in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- External Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strategic relationships with key insurer markets and premium finance providers, negotiating effectively at a senior level to deliver innovative solutions and long-term partnerships.
- Internal Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with executive leadership and investors to support business objectives, navigating challenging trading conditions while executing a focused growth strategy.
- Growth and Profitability: Actively measure and deliver growth in the client's company with an emphasis on organic expansion and margin improvement. Enhance profitability through effective metric reporting and data analysis.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with FCA regulations and oversee ad hoc reporting requirements, maintaining a high standard of operational governance.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small, long-standing team across different regions, fostering a culture of collaboration, performance, and professional development.
- M&A Alignment: Actively engage with M&A providers and potential targets, guiding the lifecycle of deals to ensure alignment with the company's broking and markets strategy.
- A minimum of 10 years in senior roles within the general insurance sector, with a specialty in niche and commercial lines.
- Established relationships within the UK insurance market and a proven ability to negotiate at a strategic level.
- Experience working in private equity environments, with expertise in designing and executing "buy and build" M&A strategies.
- Demonstrated success in interrogating large data sets to inform decision-making and develop innovative insurance solutions.
- A track record of operating in diverse and commercially focused businesses, including startup environments, with the ability to manage multiple objectives.
- Low-ego, high-EQ leadership style, with a collaborative and participative approach to driving business success.
- Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to plan, execute, and deliver on complex initiatives.
- Proven ability to mentor and inspire teams, promoting both individual and collective growth.
