Paediatric Palliative Medicine Consultant (7.5 PAs)

Applications are invited for a 7.5 PA Substantive Consultant post in Paediatric Palliative Medicine (PPM) at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) foundation trust. The post holder will be an integral member of the Louis Dundas Centre for Paediatric Palliative Care in the Blood Cells and Cancer Directorate.
The Louis Dundas Centre (LDC) at GOSH is one of the leading paediatric palliative care teams in Europe. The Centre aims to bring together academic research and clinical expertise to ensure that children, young people and families have access to specialist care of the highest standard. The Centre is linked with the UCL Institute of Child Health.
This role will promote and support the delivery of all aspects of palliative and end-of-life care to GOSH patients referred from multiple sources within London and the South East of England. The team's activity is undertaken both on site and in the patients' homes, local hospitals or hospices.

Main duties of the jobThis 7.5 PA appointment for a Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine (PPM) will involve providing senior medical delivery of palliative care to infants, children, and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Person Specification- GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date)
- MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent post-graduate qualification in Paediatrics
- CCT/CCST in Paediatric Palliative Medicine (PPM) (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR)
- Higher degree - PhD, MD or equivalent
- Formal teaching qualification
- Extensive experience in Paediatric palliative care
- Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
- Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects.
- Valid BLS Training
- Knowledge and Understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Understanding of Diversity and Inclusion challenges in the workplace
- Demonstrable contribution to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
- Published research in peer-reviewed journals in relevant area
- Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
- Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks
- Experience of clinical leadership or management
- Valid APLS and NLS (this may be mandatory for some posts).
- High level written and oral communication skills; advanced communication skills training
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
- Ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
- Ability to work on own initiative within an ever-changing environment.
