About the Role:At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, we strive for excellence and are looking for the best and brightest minds to join us in helping to drive performance and improve efficiency. Our Core Technology Team are looking for a Platform Engineer who has the passion and determination to work across a broad cross-section of disciplines and technologies. Working collaboratively with others, you will help to provide and support the IT infrastructure and services that empower the Team as it works to succeed both on and off the track.

Key Accountabilities:- Implementing infrastructure platforms across several technology stacks to provide secure, reliable, high performing and scalable services for the wider team to consume.
- Managing and maintaining a mix of traditional (datacentres, storage, backup/restore/DR, hypervisor, compute) and modern (containerisation, cloud, serverless) capabilities across Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Installing and configuring physical IT hardware in a datacentre environment, maintaining the facility and the associated infrastructure in concert with site facilities.
- Supporting and troubleshooting Windows and Linux server workloads, virtual machines, containers, clusters, and services, including out of hours escalation when needed.
- Managing and maintaining tooling to automate complex and error-prone tasks, allowing for continual improvement, integrating and evolving products pragmatically to meet business requirements.
- Contributing to infrastructure security standards, system protection and continuity.
- Collaborating with other IT and business teams to fulfil their needs through the provision of platforms allowing self-service, giving teams the ability to implement projects using a shared internal platforms.
Essential Experience:
- In-depth knowledge and experience of Linux, Windows and hypervisor technologies, storage platforms, and associated underlying infrastructure hardware.
- Experience with platforms and services including VMware, Active Directory and Kubernetes including token-based and certificate authentication.
- Knowledge of writing scripts and automation tooling to help achieve business goals without time-consuming manual intervention.
- Wider experience with various datacentre infrastructures and systems, including cooling, structured cabling, networking and firewalls to enable close working with other technical and site services teams.
Desirable Experience:
- Cloud and hybrid-based alternatives to on-premises infrastructure, including offerings to complement capacity.
- Managing and operating via command line utilities and working to deliver and improve platforms using self-service and automation through modern practises.
- Providing infrastructure for large Enterprise applications such as PLM or ERP platforms.
- Vendor certifications (e.g. VMware, Microsoft, Linux, Kubernetes).
- The successful candidate will bring a wide range of experience and skills and be able to combine them with a high attention to detail, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
- Organised and initiative-taking, able to communicate clearly, and willing to take ownership and accountability for their work in current and future platforms and processes.
- Keen to use intuition to perform deeper analysis of problems outside of current skills and knowledge.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, remaining calm under pressure and able to retain focus during difficult break-fix / downtime scenarios.
