Principal Clinical Psychologist & Clinical Lead

An exciting opportunity has become available to join our dynamic and energetic service as Clinical Lead of Oxleas CAMHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST) within the London Borough of Bexley.

Mental Health Support Teams are part of an exciting National initiative, working in collaboration with education settings, to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in response to the government's Green Paper: Transforming children and young people's mental health provision.

Main duties of the job

As Clinical Lead, you will be responsible alongside the Team Manager for ensuring high quality and safe service delivery, supporting the team to provide a clinically safe and responsive mental health and wellbeing service to children, young people and families within a number of local primary and secondary education settings.

You will work in close partnership with education colleagues, local authority and partner agencies and will develop strong working relationships with senior clinical, professional and managerial leads within Oxleas CAMHS and the wider Trust.

The service has recently expanded and is developing as a service in its own right in Oxleas CAMHS. The Clinical Lead and Team Manager will be leading the team through this change to achieve its ambitious goals and continue to improve the MHST service in Bexley.

Job responsibilities

Experience of strong clinical and leadership skills are essential for this role. You will also need to have excellent communication and management skills with a passion for early intervention mental health support for children, young people and families.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Post-graduate Doctoral level training and qualification in Clinical Psychology, as accredited by the BPS and recognised by HCPC.
  • Professional registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Completed training in clinical supervision.
  • Further training in at least one specialised area of psychological practice relevant to children and young people's mental health, through formal qualification (post-graduate diploma or equivalent) OR a combination of specialist short courses/an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice in specialism.
  • Completed CPD in clinical leadership.
Experience
  • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health services, including working within schools in CAMHS teams or equivalent.
  • Experience of undertaking leadership responsibilities e.g. further supervision courses/training.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision to qualified and non-qualified Psychologists, Psychological Professionals and clinicians from other disciplines.
Skills
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of the theory of relevant psychological practice/processes and their therapeutic application to working with children and adolescents.
  • Ability and skills to work effectively within an MDT, including clinical and management leadership joint working, contributing to effective team functioning.
  • Ability and skills in developing effective clinical pathways that include evidence-based psychological care of children and young people.
  • To plan delivery of psychology and psychological services to the client group and carers, involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced skills in clinical supervision.
  • Advanced skills in working within complex systems, managing the highly complex relationships within and between parts of the system in ways which maximise the potential for good outcomes.
