Location: Remote first, flexible working arrangements, with all UK based locations considered. Our flexible office collaboration spaces, for those wishing to use them, are in London, Exeter and Bristol.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Principal Energy Consultant, with specialist experience in scoping, managing and delivering energy and net zero projects, as well as the communication skills to represent City Science in front of clients. The successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of projects which may include: Local Area Energy Plans, Net Zero Action Plans, Heat Network Studies, Net Zero Pipeline development and specialist net zero research. The successful candidate will take an active leadership role in projects, delivering technical insights to clients through an open, trusted and consultative approach.
They will support the continued growth of our business, through delivering upon our team's wider commercial targets; such as through identifying future opportunities and delivering high quality tender responses. They will be provided the opportunity to attend, present and represent City Science at key industry wide energy and decarbonisation-focused national conferences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management
- Taking a leadership role in the growth of at least one sub-sector within our Energy offer.
- Project management (delivering projects in the relevant technical area to high quality standards, on time and within budget).
- Delivering successful customer engagements, working proactively to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Line management, development and mentoring of our team members, specialising in energy planning and pipeline development.
- Managing and providing technical oversight, advisory and analysis within a range of energy projects (including energy modelling).
- Supporting the Associate Director and Head of Energy in development of the Energy inputs to our business planning processes.
Technical
- Undertaking technical research and prototyping to test and automate energy planning, retrofitting and modelling (and other) processes.
- Providing clear, strategic advice based on data and technical expertise, including GIS analysis.
- Overseeing development of detailed whole-system energy models utilising a variety of software packages (Excel, Python, SQL etc) and bespoke analyses across a variety of domains, including: building physics, power systems, energy planning and demand forecasting.
- Developing and delivering expert energy and sustainability advice, analysis and thought leadership.
Business Development
- Producing high quality content and reports for clients, including technical and financial proposals.
- Leading delivery of business development activities, including direct client outreach, producing successful proposals and conducting general networking activities.
- Representing detailed technical information to potential clients clearly, honestly and with integrity.
- Providing clients with a deep understanding of our solutions, services and emerging innovations.
- Meeting and presenting our capability to key stakeholders including senior officers and portfolio holders within local authorities.
ABOUT YOU
You're ambitious, proactive and customer-focused with exceptional attention to detail and the needs of our clients. You're a champion in your field with a rigorous, disciplined approach and a deep technical knowledge of energy planning, modelling and retrofit. You have extensive experience working within energy systems and are comfortable working with and leading technical elements of energy projects. You're a great collaborator, committed to success of the team with the flexibility to intelligently adapt your style to the task in hand. Most importantly, you've got the drive, ambition, hunger and work ethic to succeed in this fast-moving role.

Essential Requirements:
- At least 5-years experience in a consultancy environment.
- Professional, consultative and collaborative approach at all times.
- Demonstrable technical knowledge and understanding across energy systems, in particular renewable energy and building physics.
- Clear systematic and logical approach to analysis.
- Advanced skills in Excel, Python and GIS.
- Existing trusted personal customer relationships in the energy sector.
- 1st class degree in a technical or scientific field.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience delivering decarbonisation strategies.
- Experience with Local Area Energy Planning.
- Experience with Local Heat & Energy Efficiency Strategies.
- Experience with District Heat Networks.
- Experience working in a high-growth, technology start-up environment.
- Experience with hydrogen.
- Experience designing/supporting customer workshops.
- Programming skills: experience developing modelling in software code e.g. Python.
