Principal Software Engineer: Extensive Knowledge (8 - 12 years)
Duration
: 4 months + Extension
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

This is a Amsterdam based role with an excellent immediate start within a Global Technology Client that is working on their largest digital and technological transformation program.

Job Overview

Principal Software Engineers I are technical leaders responsible for key business initiatives, owning technical strategy, and co-creating tactical plans. They serve as role models, mentors, and strategists, overseeing and executing technical tasks with excellence. They set their own priorities to achieve business impact, and their focus can range from leading high-level architecture decisions to hands-on project implementation and coaching others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building Software Applications
    • Develop, write, refactor, and ensure the quality and security of software applications, serving as the go-to expert in these areas.
  • Architectural Guidance
    • Advise on and set the direction for technical solutions and architectural improvements, providing context and challenging design rationales.
  • End to End System Ownership
    • Monitor, manage, and document services end-to-end, reducing risks, and ensuring business continuity and customer feedback through modern practices and tools.
  • Software Systems Design
    • Evaluate and design architecture solutions, guiding junior team members, and ensuring adaptability for future requirements.
  • Technical Incident Management
    • Resolve live production issues, improve system reliability through root cause analysis, and maintain incident logs.
  • Coaching/Mentoring
    • Coach and guide colleagues at all levels, sharing knowledge and improving overall performance.
  • Critical Thinking
    • Identify patterns and underlying issues, evaluate and develop solutions, and guide junior team members in critical thinking processes.
  • Continuous Quality and Process Improvement
    • Identify and implement process, system, and structural improvements to enhance business performance.
  • Effective Communication
    • Deliver clear, structured information, achieve solutions through adaptable communication, and engage with speakers using active listening.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Participate in on-call rotations as needed.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 8-12 years of experience in software engineering + Extensive knowledge.
  • Proven experience in leading technical projects and teams.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Experience with system design, architecture, and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach junior team members.
  • Experience with end-to-end system management and incident management.
