Project Engineer (Public Sector)

Are you looking for a Project Engineer role? Interested in working for a well-renowned organisation whose portfolio contains a wide range of commercial uses, including office, industrial, leisure, hospitality, and media?

VANRATH are recruiting a Project Engineer, initially on a 6-month contract, with a great likelihood of being extended, possibly leading to a permanent position, to be part of the team responsible for the maintenance and development of all Estate infrastructure. You will provide a highly professional civil engineering and project management capability in the delivery of a wide range of projects as part of the harbour's capital and operational expenditure plans.

The Ideal Person

Essential Criteria

  1. BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering or related degree (2:2 or above).
  2. At least five years' experience working on engineering and construction projects.
  3. Knowledge and experience in the application of the CDM Regulations.
  4. Knowledge and experience of procurement, tender documentation, and Conditions of Contract (e.g. JCT, FIDIC, ICC, NEC).
  5. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software packages.
  6. Driving Licence.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Chartered Engineering status (or willing to work towards).
  2. Eight years' post-graduate experience including performing a leading role on significant engineering projects.
  3. Experience of marine or Port-related infrastructure projects.
  4. Project management, design, and practical site experience.
  5. Experience of estimating and controlling budgets.
  6. Knowledge of the planning system and Environmental Assessments.
  7. Understanding of asset management and experience of structural inspections.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the project sponsor and business units to identify the business need and requirements for a project.
  2. Establish, through data analysis, clear objectives and success measures for projects, translating client requirements into a project brief.
  3. Lead and coordinate any optioneering which may be required.
  4. Be responsible for the stewardship of projects through the necessary project governance processes.
  5. Provide technical engineering insight and analysis.
  6. Be responsible for the coordination, implementation, and control of both technical and engineering projects including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning/handover.
  7. Provide clear and consistent communication throughout the duration of the project utilising best practice project controls.
  8. Work closely with the project sponsor, stakeholders, and the design team to manage and resolve issues to ensure the best possible project outcomes.
  9. Ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are scoped and being managed as part of the project governance arrangements.
  10. Work proactively to support all design and delivery partners to achieve the best possible project outcomes.
