Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Verification Engineer II joins the Mechanical Business Unit to conduct software testing of ANSYS applications such as LS-DYNA. This role assesses how well the product meets customer needs both in terms of functionality and usability and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are satisfied. The role works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical specialists on product issues.
The verification engineer will research new engineering features in order to create analytical and user scenario test cases to evaluate the functionality and performance of capabilities being added to our engineering simulation software. As part of the software testing of the ANSYS Mechanical suite of applications, a verification engineer programs and maintains automated testing scripts and software tools. This person participates in requirements planning, design reviews and investigating defects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Specify and write test cases, creates, modify and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts
- Perform functional, application, regression and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments and investigate possible causes of problems
- Create test plans, participate in defect management and testing metrics
- Apply standard techniques and procedures and comply with the company's overall development and testing processes
- Work in a variety of computing environments: Linux, Windows, Virtual, Compute Clusters, Cloud
- Tests products at all levels: Workflow, Unit, Application, Performance
- Works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical support specialists on product issues
- Coordinates with other teams to address cross team dependencies
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- BS in in mechanical or civil or structural engineering with 2 years of experience, or MS with no experience
- Strong knowledge of structural, and computational mechanics
- Experience and/or academic exposure with FEA and CAE tools with knowledge of FE methods
- Proficient in one or more programming or scripting languages: Python, C++, C#, Jscript, Perl
- Technical knowledge and experience with explicit dynamics, structural dynamics and numerical method is desired
- Experience in a large-scale commercial software testing and verification environment
- PhD degree will be considered
- Strong programming skills is highly desirable
- Experience with ANSYS structural mechanics products, LS-DYNA, AUTODYN, Explicit would be a clear advantage
- Experience with both LINUX and Windows platforms preferred
- Competent in the use of general office software applications such as mail tools, document editors, spreadsheets and databases
- A thorough and careful approach to work; close attention to details and quality; strong organizational skills
- Ability to establish good working relationships with Development, Testing, and Support staff
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
- Able to troubleshoot by simplifying complex systems, debugging, and finding root causes
- Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
