Regulatory Director

The Regulatory Director will serve as a key regional leader for the company's regulatory strategy and compliance framework, ensuring alignment with global objectives while addressing the unique requirements of local markets. Acting as a bridge between the VP of Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs, other Regional Regulatory Directors, and local teams, this role will drive compliance excellence across jurisdictions, provide critical regulatory insights, and support the development of innovative fintech solutions in a regulated environment. The ideal candidate will have deep legal and regulatory expertise, strong collaborative skills, and a proactive approach to managing regulatory risk in the dynamic fintech industry.
Primary Responsibilities & Expectations:
Regulatory Strategy & Compliance Leadership
- Analyze and interpret international and UK regulations impacting the payments and fintech sectors, ensuring the company remains compliant and competitive across its global operations.
- Develop, implement, and refine regulatory strategies to support global business structures, products, and services, with particular attention to evolving regulations.
- Collaborate with local regulatory leaders in the UK and other regions to harmonize compliance strategies while addressing country-specific nuances, including the distinct regulatory landscape in UK.
- Provide regulatory oversight for new product launches, ensuring alignment with global regulatory standards and local UKian requirements, including tax compliance, data protection and anti-money laundering (AML) obligations.
- Partner with UK authorities and industry associations to stay ahead of emerging regulatory trends and advocate for company interests in the region.
Commercial & Operational Compliance
- Ensure that commercial agreements, partnerships, and business operations comply with applicable laws and regulations in all relevant jurisdictions, with a specific focus on compliance with UK regulatory frameworks and market standards.
- Design and enhance scalable compliance procedures tailored to both global and UK clients, balancing operational efficiency with stringent adherence to local and international regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed on legal and regulatory changes, particularly in the UK's rapidly evolving fintech and payments sectors, proactively addressing risks and ensuring the company's ongoing adherence to both global and local requirements.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with regional compliance teams, product development teams, and other internal stakeholders to manage regulatory risks and ensure seamless integration of regulatory requirements into business processes.
- Act as a key liaison between the VP of Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs, other Regulatory Directors, and external stakeholders, promoting a unified regulatory approach across regions.
- Maintain and nurture relationships with external counsel and regulatory bodies in different jurisdictions, ensuring timely and effective communication.
Technical Regulatory Support & Representation
- Provide technical regulatory guidance to internal teams, with a particular emphasis on compliance frameworks, fostering a global culture of compliance and ethical business practices across all jurisdictions.
- Represent the company in relevant industry associations, regulatory forums, and stakeholder meetings, advocating for the organization's interests while ensuring alignment with both global and UK regulatory expectations.

Experience & Qualification Requirements:
- Education: A law degree is mandatory. Advanced proficiency in English is required. Additional languages are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of legal and regulatory experience, ideally in the fintech or payments sector, with expertise across multiple jurisdictions.
- Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of cross-border legal structures and international regulatory frameworks.
- Sector Expertise: Experience in the international payments and fintech industry is highly advantageous.
- Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively within regional and global teams.
- Flexibility: Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory landscape.
