Langford Vets are pleased to be able to offer a three-year residency position in Veterinary Neurology starting as soon as possible. Our programme is approved by the European College of Veterinary Neurology. Successful candidates will be part of a well-developed training programme in a large neurology team and work with other specialities within the small animal referral hospital. Training in all aspects of Veterinary Neurology including surgery, pathology, diagnostic imaging, and electrodiagnostics will be provided. Residents will primarily be involved in clinical work and are expected to study for the ECVN diploma in Veterinary Neurology. Other duties include clinical teaching and clinical research, and you will be expected to submit manuscripts for publication based on research work during the programme.

Responsibilities- Support the neurological caseload within the Small Animal Referral Hospital and the Large Animal and Equine departments where necessary.
- Provide excellent care for patients and customers.
- Communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and nurses working within other services to ensure cases are managed efficiently.
- Provide clinical teaching to undergraduate students and junior clinical training scholars (interns) as required.
- Provide small animal neurological services for the Small Animal Referral Hospital, ensuring all cases are accepted and treated appropriately.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent care for all patients.
- Ensure the continuing growth of the referral caseload by providing excellent customer and patient care.
- Perform diagnoses, treatments, and procedures to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital.
- Record all case records accurately.
- Ensure that client consent is gained as necessary and that they are aware of and kept up to date with treatment costs.
- Ensure that laboratory findings are reported to clients.
- Assess and examine inpatients on a daily basis, and keep all records up to date and update all relevant staff of any changes.
- Follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies.
- Ensure telephone queries are answered in a timely manner.
- Have students assigned to you on their clinical rotations and on EMS as required.
- Contribute to the assessment and delivery of appraisals of students on their practical rotation when applicable.
- Ensure that Veterinary Nurses are supervised to the required level.
- Ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures.
- Be available when requested on the rota (minimum 1 in 4) to provide cover for the relief of pain and suffering in animals and to receive and treat emergency cases.
- Perform administrative tasks as required by the hospital manager and the CEO.
- Undertake any reasonable requests made by the service clinical leads.
- Execute and publish research projects to ensure credential requirements for European Board examinations are fulfilled.
- Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement.
- Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards, and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager.
The skills, abilities, experience, and knowledge outlined below provide a summary of what is required to carry out this job effectively:
- More than 2 years working as a veterinary surgeon with completion of a recognised internship.
- Experience working in a teaching hospital.
- Excellent client communication and good team player.
- Good organisation and prioritisation skills.
