Job Description

At Soaring Heights Care, our main aim is to help children and young people with compassion and support. Our team is led by a Director with extensive experience in helping others through social work, probation, and youth justice.

We are looking for a Residential Support Worker (Children) to join our team.

  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people.
  • To develop positive and meaningful relationships with the children and young people in the home.
  • Ensure that children and young people receive appropriate health care and treatment and advocate for the children and young person if this is not being met.
  • Ensure that children and young people receive the educational services they require.
  • To work in partnership with parents and families, and other professional services and develop a network of people for the child or young person
  • To recognise when a child or young person is not achieving their full potential or at harm/risk of forms of abuse including Child Sexual Exploitation and Child Criminal Exploitation, and support with strategies to minimise risk and harm to the child.
  • To support children and young people to access community based social and developmental activities, to the best of their abilities.
  • To support children and young people to develop skills to express their wishes, feelings and needs.
  • To support children and young people to develop life skills through in-house and community-based activities.
  • To support children and young people to access therapeutic services they may benefit from.
  • To encourage positive behaviour and set clear boundaries of acceptable behaviour through child-centred and holistic approaches.
  • To identify and meet the physical, emotional, behavioural, cultural and educational needs of the children and young people.
  • Ensure you are aware of and appropriately use local procedures and inter-agency arrangements and agreements to safeguard children and young people
  • To ensure children and young people understand the complaints procedures
  • To raise issues of poor practice with other staff, if required to raise this with the homes Safeguarding Lead or by using the Whistleblowing Procedure.
  • To provide children and young people's physical needs by offering healthy balanced meals, washing and ironing of bedding and clothing.
  • Ensuring children and young people have appropriate number of towels and bedding and they have all clothing or equipment they may require to attend education or social community-based activities.
  • To support children and young people to develop skills around household duties and how to manage this, and encourage and prepare children and young people for independent living
  • To be ambitious for the children and support and advocate for them to achieve their goals.
  • To organise, support and encourage children and young people to take part in activities in the home and the community
  • To support and encourage children to attend any meetings that is in relation to their care and support children to share their wishes and feelings during theses meetings.
  • To contribute to a consistent team approach whilst supporting children and young people
  • To ensure the requirements of the Children's Homes Regulations England 2015
  • To be aware of aims and objectives of the home and have a positive contribution to the home and the team
  • To attend team meetings
  • To actively contribute to the development of the team and willing to give and take constructive feedback on performance with colleagues and manager.
  • To ensure digital and paperback records of the children's and young people are kept up to dare.
  • To be aware of the child care plans for all the children and young people in the home. To ensure these files are kept up to date and accurate reflecting the child and young person.
  • To be aware of all policies, procedures and requirements of the home and the NMS and ensure all recording of information, incidents, restraints and other relevant documents are completed and carried out in a timely manner.
  • To establish working relationships with social workers, educations, health care and other professionals.
  • To communicate effectively and positively with others
  • To ensure that information is shared accidently and securely
  • To be aware of and adhere to all relevant financial procedures and address any concerns with managers
  • To undertake professional development (Level 3 Residential Childcare)
  • To attend appraisals and supervisions
