Job Description
We are looking fora salaried GP working for the Haverhill PCN but based exclusively at HaverhillFamily Practice. The Salaried GP must havequalified within the last two years.

The initial contact will be for 12 months but will be reviewed thereafter.

We are looking for a salaried GP for 4 sessions (2 full days)

Main duties of the job The salaried GP will be responsible for providing medical care and services to the practice population, managing a clinical caseload and dealing with a diverse range of health needs.

This will include consultations (either face to face, via telephone or via e-consults), home visits and administration.

About us Haverhill Family Practice is a GP surgery located in the market town of Haverhill Suffolk.

We are within walking distance of the town centre and the main bus station.

We are part of the Haverhill PCN.

We are a five Partner practice with our clinical team comprising of a salaried GP, regular GP Locums, Advanced Care Practitioners (ACP's), Paramedics, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and a pharmacy team. In addition we also have an in-house First Contact Physiotherapist and Mental Health Link Workers.

In addition to our normal GP services we provide a minor surgery clinic, vaccination clinics and home visits by our nursing team to monitor Long Term Medical Conditions.

Quarterly training sessions are provided by Suffolk & North Essex Integrated Care Board. The Practice closes one afternoon so that all clinical staff can attend. We also offer monthly Lunch & Learn sessions for the clinical team which is led by Consultants from the Nuffield Hospital.

We are a friendly, busy practice with excellent staff retention.

We were approved as a GP Training Practice in August 2022 and currently have four GP Trainees.

Our current list size is 19,465 patients.

Our CQC rating is Good.

Job responsibilities Job Summary and scope

We are looking fora salaried GP working for the Haverhill PCN but based exclusively at HaverhillFamily Practice. The Salaried GP must havequalified within the last two years. The salaried GP is responsible forproviding medical care and services to the practice population, managing aclinical caseload and dealing with a diverse range of health needs.

This willinclude, but is not limited to, surgery and telephone consultations, homevisits, administration, complying with the practices contracts(GMS/PMS/enhanced services), and the education and training of junior/traineeclinical staff.

Key responsibilities clinical

Caring for patients

Practise evidence-basedmedicine, in line with national and locally agreed guidelines

Conduct patient consultationsduring the practices clinical appointment hours

Undertake duty andout-of-hours consultations as required, on a rota basis

Triage patients presenting tothe practice in person, by telephone and E-Consults.

Conduct telephoneconsultations and home visits as appropriate

Check and sign repeatprescription requests

Check, manage and processpatient test results

Prescribe in line with localand national guidelines

Refer patients tosecondary/urgent care and additional interventions as appropriate

Manage long-term conditionsand patients with complex problems

Promote healthy livingstrategies and give health and wellbeing advice, generally encouraging patientsto follow a healthy lifestyle

Carry out patient testing andscreening as required

Make autonomous clinicaldecisions relating to patients health needs

Communication with patients

Use communication that isappropriate to the situation, including:
  • Communicatingsensitively with patients and carers when delivering bad news
Establishing appropriatecommunication methods to suit patients and carers level of understanding,cultural/language needs, and preferred communication method

Anticipating and overcomingbarriers to communication, seeking support from other staff members wherenecessary

Use appropriate communicationskills and style to make patients aware of risk, to obtain consent wherenecessary, and to ensure patients comply with treatment

Delivering high-quality services

Provide services to thepractices patient population to the highest possible standard, in line with competenciesand professional code of conduct

Monitor and maintain thestandard of care provided, taking appropriate action if standards are not met,through self- and peer-review, benchmarking and evaluation

Undertake clinical governanceand clinical audit activities to ensure the continual improvement of servicedelivery

Participate in reviewing andresponding to complaints, significant events, andother shared learning activities within a structured framework

Support and mentor staff intraining to ensure they deliver the highest standards of care

Support the performance ofteam members and collaborate in improving the quality of healthcare and serviceprovision, in line with local and national policy and strategy

Work within the practiceslegal framework for identifying vulnerable patients and applying policiesrelating to treatment of vulnerable patients.

Make timely, clear,computer-based records of consultations and contact with patients

Maintain administrativerecords relating to the practice contract, enhanced services and QOF

Attend and contribute toin-house meetings, including clinical, educational/training-related andadministrative meetings

Attend meetings and eventsheld by external agencies and stakeholders

Contribute to teaching andtraining clinical staff as appropriate

Other important aspects of the role

Maintaining confidentiality

The salaried GPwill, as an integral part of and in the course of carrying out his/her role, haveaccess to confidential and sometimes sensitive information relating topatients, carers and family members, as well as similar information aboutcolleagues. The salaried GP will also have access to confidentialcommercial information about the practice and its business.

All suchinformation, in whatever format and howsoever made available, must be treatedwith the strictest confidence. All suchinformation held both within and outside of the practice will be shared only asnecessary, and in accordance with the practices confidentiality/data-sharingpolicies, and in line with data protection legislation and the Freedom ofInformation Act.
