Job Description

We are currently expanding our Building Structures team and are looking for an experienced Structural Design Engineer.


Main Purpose of the Job

Based in our London office you will be part of a hardworking and growing team of 30 Engineer/Consultants. The office is based in an excellent location within easy reach of Charing Cross mainline station and Covent Garden & Embankment underground stations.

As part of your role as a senior structural design engineer, you will be working on a variety of multidisciplinary projects. Your workload will include liaison with clients and other external consultants. You will perform complex technical or professional work activities and assure delivery to meet client requirements.

In-depth knowledge of basic structural engineering principles generally associated with building structures is essential for your role. You will have a thorough knowledge of design codes and standards being used in the UK. The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines and other requirements is also an essential part of the role.

Additionally, you will be expected to provide direction to junior members of the team to support their development and achieve competent delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform/check/review relevant structural engineering design calculations to fully meet the client specification in accordance with relevant standards, building codes, and safety regulations.
  2. Collate project information, liaise, and engage with clients, architects, and other third parties as required.
  3. Carry out visual surveys of building structures and produce structural appraisal reports as required.
  4. Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  5. Supervise and delegate project workload to more junior members of staff and others as required.
  6. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and other team members.
  7. Check/approve work by other staff, including third-party design proposals.
  8. Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and documents related to projects.
  9. Assist Project Leads in managing project budgets, schedules, and resources.

What Qualifications, Experience & Skills are required?

Essential

  • Degree in Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years in building structure analysis and design.
  • Design of reinforced concrete and steel-framed building structures.
  • Finite element software in structural engineering.
  • Design software such as TEDDS, Concrete Centre Spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • Chartered status with ICE or IStructE preferred, not essential.
  • Experience at a senior engineer level.
  • Mentoring graduates and engineers.
  • Design of timber, masonry, modular, and other types of building structures.
  • Producing fee proposals and managing project budget.
  • Tekla-3D Building Designer /SCIA/ Robot/RAM/ETABS.
  • Auto CAD/Revit.
