Purpose of the role:

What you will do:

  • Maintain and refactor existing code to provide a stable API for our VPN client applications and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product owners, designers, QA, and other engineers to take initiatives from ideation to completion.
  • Break down large initiatives into smaller milestones to gather stakeholder feedback quickly, allowing us to course-correct immediately.
  • Propose the best next steps when initiatives are deadlocked between product and engineering.
  • Keep security top-of-mind during design and implementation to ensure we keep our promise of protecting our users' data.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and team-player attitude by helping the team raise the bar on code quality, architecture, and day-to-day operations.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong experience with backend architecture and development.
  • Experience working on highly scalable production systems.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and software engineering skills.
  • Takes care to ensure that the product always meets user expectations.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, such as SOLID, Design Patterns, TDD, CI/CD.
  • Is eager to both learn and share their knowledge by engaging in respectful and constructive conversation.
  • Familiarity with modern PHP and the Symfony framework.
  • Open source contributions.
  • Experience leading complex, highly scalable production systems.
  • Experience with data processing and storage (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Elastic).
  • High-level understanding of cryptography concepts such as key exchange and the difference between symmetric and asymmetric encryption.
