About the role
As an Operational Site Manager, you will be part of our Trunk Mains Leakage Operational Team delivering Trunk Mains repairs (and associated work) across the Thames Water area - both Planned and Emergency. You will be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of the works, from planning and pre-dig activities to onsite supervision and management and then to project close and handover. You will ensure that the works are compliant with all MWS and TW standards and demonstrate best practice in all areas. You will also ensure that all care is taken to deliver the works efficiently and in a cost-effective manner (and providing that all documents and records are kept, stored and made available to the Commercial team).
Main Duties:
- Accountable for SHEQW performance of Projects, including undertaking and recording findings of periodic SHEQW visits.
- Responsible for all Health and Safety issues on site, completion of paperwork, including weekly safety & environmental inspections, toolbox talks, site-specific risk assessments & method statements.
- Oversee the Supervisory management of multiple concurrent projects by proactively managing site-based Team Leader/Teams ensuring safety, quality and time frames drive performance.
- Responsible for delivery of projects in line with programmes of work and actively managing any slippage.
- Liaison with Managers/Senior Managers on Procurement of plant, materials and specialist subcontractors using an appropriate financial management accounting system to ensure projects are delivered within tender allowances.
- Coach and support operational staff regarding MOP compliance.
- Act as a Health & Safety ambassador across the organisation by driving cultural change into the Delivery/Design Teams to eliminate/minimise physical and non-physical waste.
- Manage compliance of all operational teams through on-site coaching, toolbox talks and behavioural guidance.
- Conduct site visits, meetings, project involvement, incident investigations and client feedback to ensure full compliance to both HSE legislation and M Group Procedures.
- Pro-actively highlight areas of concern.
- Ensure all Operatives are trained and competent to undertake their duties prior to beginning any work.
- Support the training and development of Operatives and staff.
- Deliver team talks and SHEQ briefings.
- Assist in the drafting of and approval of S.S.O.W for Projects.
- Identify tasks, equipment and activities requiring RAMs and assist in their development.
- Issue Permits to Work when required.
- Ensure all relevant tasks are completed safely, effectively and deadlines are met.
- Actively support the continuous improvement of the contract.
- Ensure reports share workload, co-ordinate holidays, and work as a coherent team.
- Ensure compliance with NRSWA notices and permit conditions.
- Checking of signing, lighting and guarding to ensure compliance with the NRSWA (red book).
- Check all permit boards details including permit number and date.
- Ensure traffic management is set up and maintained in accordance with agreed plans and NRSWA requirements.
- Complete incident reports and attend lessons learnt review.
- Ensure any issue or problem encountered that you are not sure about are escalated to your line manager.
- Promote the highest levels of integrity within the business, demonstrate professionalism and uphold the MWS code of conduct at all times.
- Manage resources ensuring our teams are being effectively used including: Recruitment, Training and compliance, Safety, Absence and sickness.

Experience:
Management experience with the ability to lead a team and identify development needs with other operational staff.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge and Experience in the water industry.
- Have knowledge and experience of working to a budget and programme.
- Commercial and Contractual awareness and a strong understanding of the commercial impact of decisions made.
- Ability to minimise cost and maximise value during project construction phases.
- Effective management of sub-contractors.
- Excellent customer and client relationship skills.
- Ability to influence client decision-making.
- Basic Management training, skills & experience.
- Good understanding of legislative and corporate SHEQ / Industry / Legal requirements.
- Good level of understanding of all MWS MOPs with a particular focus on those attached to high-risk activities carried out on the contract.
- Both the adaptability to plan as well as the adaptability to control and manage quickly changing plans.
