Job Description
Specialty Doctor in Burns & Plastic Surgery Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Applicants are invited to apply for the whole time position of Specialty Doctor with an interest in Skin Cancer and General Plastic Surgery. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated surgeon to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary care both from the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit based at Whiston Hospital.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • FRCS (Plastics) or equivalent medical qualification
  • Hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of application
Clinical Experience
  • Minimum 4 years post graduate experience with at least 2 years in Burns & Plastic Surgery
  • Experience in the management of skin cancer
  • Experience of supervising Junior Medical Staff
  • Experience or ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems within the specialty
  • Experience and ability to contribute to the efficient and smooth running of a specialist service within an NHS setting
  • Experience or ability to organise and manage clinical priorities and deliverance of prioritised activity
Teaching Experience
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Contributes to teaching and learning of others in a clinical setting
Researching Experience
  • Understanding of the basic principles of audit and research
  • Evidence of active participation in audit
  • Participation in clinical/laboratory research
  • Publications, abstracts, peer reviewed articles
Other
  • Is up to date and fit to practice safely
  • Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation
  • Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
