The Vascular Science service is a team of seven clinical vascular scientists, two trainees, and three scientific support associates. We provide inpatient and outpatient adults and children's vascular ultrasound services, Monday-Friday, at both the Bristol and Weston sites, although this role will be based at the BRI.

Main duties of the job

As the Specialty Manager, along with the clinical leads, you will provide leadership for the Vascular Science service:

  1. Day to day operational management of the Vascular Science Service
  2. Professional lead for the administrative function in your specialty
  3. Leading on service development and driving delivery of the specialty vision and operational performance
  4. Ensuring that we have the right workforce to deliver safe, high quality care for our patients
  5. Responsibility for delegated budgets and identifying and implementing cost improvement opportunities
  6. Leading on governance, quality and patient safety ensuring that complaints, incidents and risks are managed in line with Trust policy

Person specification Qualifications and Training
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Knowledge and Experience
  • Significant and demonstrable knowledge of managing service(s) against national performance targets
  • Significant experience of managing a range of staff or a major service
  • Significant experience of budgetary management, including management of contract income
  • Experience and proven ability in managing organisational / service change
  • NHS or public sector experience
  • Management of waiting lists and performance
  • Knowledge of current NHS issues; including NHS Plan, performance targets and Foundation Trust status
  • Acute Hospital operational experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people and to build credibility quickly
  • Proven ability to analyse and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to manage a post that will change and develop to meet the needs of the service
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to produce analytical reports
  • Ability to manage, motivate and develop people
