Location/DivisionThe Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) Electron Microscopy business, enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries which can ultimately change the world. The MSD EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.
Worldwide Electron Microscopy employees, using hardware, software and applications expertise in the electron, ion, and light microscopy fields, significantly help guide our customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges in material sciences, life sciences and electronics around the world.
Job Summary:The Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for the planning, development, and execution of manufacturing engineering initiatives to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production processes. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of manufacturing systems, process improvements, and team management. The Senior Manager will collaborate multi-functionally with product design, quality, operations, and supply chain teams to enhance manufacturing processes, drive continuous improvement, and support new product introductions.
Key Responsibilities:Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of manufacturing engineers to cultivate a culture of commitment and dedication.
- Set goals, evaluate performance, and provide regular feedback to team members.
- Cultivate a collaborative environment to drive engagement, problem-solving, and innovation.
- Supervise the design, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing processes for efficiency and quality.
- Identify and implement process improvements, using lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma techniques.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and standard methodologies across production.
- Lead and coordinate sources for new product introductions, ensuring detailed integration into production.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for engineering projects, and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Collaborate with design, product development, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability of new products.
- Drive initiatives to reduce waste, increase yield, and improve overall quality metrics.
- Work with the quality team to identify and address root causes of production issues and implement corrective actions.
- Apply continuous improvement tools (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma) to create a culture of ongoing process enhancement.
- Analyze and reduce manufacturing costs through productivity enhancements, material utilization, and labor efficiencies.
- Coordinate and communicate updates on critical metrics, including cycle time, downtime, yield, and overall equipment efficiency (OEE
- Drive cost-saving initiatives across the production process, aiming to improve profitability without compromising quality.
- Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other departments, ensuring alignment of goals and priorities.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on project status, production metrics, and operational challenges.
- Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical collaborators.
- Ensure all manufacturing processes align with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a safe working environment and lead efforts to improve safety performance across manufacturing operations.
- Keep up-to-date with industry standards for compliance and improved safety.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- Validated expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, equipment, and technology.
- Experience running New Product Introduction (NPI) processes and multi-functional project teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and social skills with a collaborative mentality.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing
