Team Leader (Planning Policy and Strategy)

Grade 7 £48,559 to £55,526 per annum (with additional £5000 retention bonus for 12 months or pro rata) (subject to review)

Opportunities to shape future growth in dynamic Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire

We are growing the Planning Policy and Strategy team and have a fantastic new opportunity to join our existing Team Leaders to contribute to the delivery of an exciting and innovative work programme.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with proven experience in planning policy and strong leadership and communications skills. You will provide supportive and effective management to deliver projects in a vibrant and busy team. Through working alongside the existing managers and team leaders, you will provide additional leadership capacity and technical expertise focusing on specific work areas.

The team is currently working on a huge range of projects, including developing the first joint Local Plan in an area with the fastest growing city economy in the country, incorporating major regeneration schemes and providing a number of strategic scale new low carbon districts in Greater Cambridge.

These new roles within this Shared Planning Service provide you with an unparalleled opportunity to develop your career, leading work on some of the most innovative developments in the UK with a group of passionate, dedicated and high performing colleagues.

Greater Cambridge offers a unique opportunity to help plan for the future of the beautiful historic City of Cambridge and its surrounding rural area, which together are home to world renowned universities, hospitals and cutting-edge science. The importance of Cambridge to the national economy means that we are at the forefront of planning and plan making.

Our plans include a range of new settlements within South Cambridgeshire and urban extensions to Cambridge. For instance, existing exciting new strategic development projects include Waterbeach new town (11,000 homes), Northstowe new town (10,000 homes) and urban extension developments such as the University of Cambridge's development at Eddington (3,000 homes) and meeting the planning needs of Europe's most important biotechnology cluster at Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Our emerging new joint Local Plan includes further strategic opportunities to meet our continuing significant need for jobs and homes in the area, with further major developments.

We also have clear environmental ambitions and commissioned pioneering work on climate change and meeting net zero carbon to inform our policy development in our emerging local plan.

The successful candidates will be able to provide innovative solutions to complex planning issues and support the delivery of high quality outcomes. Careful management of our large team will be important whilst still delivering high quality products which support good place making in Greater Cambridge. We are looking for team leaders who can provide supportive and effective management to deliver the team's projects.

We operate hybrid, flexible working practices with our team working from our offices in central Cambridge and Cambourne as well as remotely. We typically come together in-person at our offices at least once a week. The successful candidates are expected to do this, to collaborate, share ideas and learn from each other.

We are currently taking part in a 4 day working week (32 hours per week) to improve recruitment and retention and support the wellbeing of our colleagues. You can read more about it 4-day week trial or talk to us about the detail of this flexible benefit we have been offering.

If you are ready for the next exciting chapter in your career then please apply now through our website. If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please contact Jonathan Dixon, Planning Policy Manager () or Caroline Hunt, Strategic Planning Manager () for an informal discussion.
