Job Description
NES Fircroft are working with a Crop Protection Solutions Company who are looking for an Yeast Technical Expert to join them in their on an initial 3 Year PAYE Contract
Duties
• To effectively plan, execute and communicate impact of yeast-based heterologous gene expression approaches to cross-indication project support
• To identify, prioritise and design advances in yeast-based technologies towards support of lead generation activities
• To effectively plan and execute transgenic and library-based experiments, making use of bioinformatics and molecular biology design software, automation and laboratory microbiological containment facilities,
• To design and execute analysis of existing omics datasets.
• To understand, interpret and present complex external data independently and in consultation with relevant experts to enable decisions on the work programme content, procedures or problem resolution.
• Develop and expand knowledge of own scientific discipline through appropriate reading and actively seek to broaden understanding of other scientific disciplines.
• Maintain a good working relationship with functional colleagues to ensure effective two-way exchange of ideas.
• Produce and accurately record all results to agreed company standards.
• Maintain high standards of HSE compliance, which includes following all risk assessments, reporting of safety incidents and supporting the lab stewards community when requested.
Skills
Critical knowledge
• Demonstrated independence in progressing scientific projects in own area of expertise
• In-depth knowledge & experience in the discipline of microbiology and molecular biology to respond to non-routine situations and to choose the best solution or approach from a range of options, with the ability to consider the short-term implications of each
Critical experience
• 2-4 years working in a scientific laboratory experience in molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry preferably with experience of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other fungi.
• Ability to communicate scientific work (reports and presentations) in a manner appropriate to the customer/audience
• Experience and skills in using Bioinformatic tools, literature search tools, general information databases and Microsoft-based document and communication software. Experience handling large and varied datasets.

• Basic understanding of plant-microbe interactions and the implications of plant science to laboratory experiments in which plant pathogens are characterised
• Good planning and organising skills.
• Adaptability and tenacity in the face of challenges.

• Motivates others and provides support and feedback on performance.
