JOB TITLE: COMMUNITY STAFF NURSE: BAND 5

What we are looking for:

  1. A general / paediatric / mental health nurse with 12 months post qualification experience including working with families and an understanding of child development.
  2. A reflective and emotionally intelligent practitioner who makes good use of supervision and support.
  3. Someone who is able to address sensitive issues with families in a clear and supportive way.
  4. Someone who is able to prioritise their work based on need and have a clear rationale for every visit.
  5. Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with clients & partners.
Main duties of the job

To support health visitors in delivering the Healthy Child Programme 0-5 years and North Middlesex Universal Hospital Trust (Enfield) Health Visiting service specification, within the commissioning criteria.

To work with the health visiting skill mix team to improve health and life outcomes for children and families within a defined community through delivering packages of care following assessment by the Health Visitor.

To participate in the development of services and health improvement activities.

To work in collaboration with other health care and service providers, including Children Centres and Early Years to identify and address health needs as part of the Healthy Child Programme.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To undertake interventions as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, undertaking mandated checks in line with the service specification and scope of practice.
  2. To deliver coordinated interventions within the framework of service specification.
  3. To assess the health needs of the child and community involving the carer and / or child in the process of meeting those health needs under the delegation of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
  4. To monitor the health of the child and to involve the carers in promoting optimum health and development of the child.
  5. To liaise with other agencies statutory and voluntary and maintain good working relationships, making referrals and consulting as necessary with the informed consent of clients and within the policies of the Trust.
  6. To be aware of the deviations from the norm in health and behaviour and to intervene to protect vulnerable children by prompt action, by referral and working with other colleagues and agencies as part of a specialist team.
  7. To ensure good communication channels are maintained within the Team.
  8. To assist the Specialist Public Health Nurse at Child Health Clinics monitoring the growth of babies and children, advising parents on aspects of parenting within his/her knowledge base.
  9. To undertake developmental assessments when trained and competent to do so.
  10. To undertake 6-8 week development reviews and liaise with the Specialist Public Health Nurse as appropriate.
  11. To deliver health promotion activities to children, young people and their families.
  12. To carry out visits to review aspects of development as directed by the Specialist Public Health Nurse.
  13. To undertake assessments when new children/families move into the area and liaise with the Specialist Public Health Nurse as appropriate.
  14. To undertake routine blood spot result giving when trained and competent to do so in line with service specification.
Person Specification Personal Qualities
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated team working across organisational and professional boundaries.
Education and qualifications
  • RN/RMN/RSCN/RNLD
  • Current NMC registration
  • Evidence of continual professional development at level 5
Skills and abilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to build rapport and establish good one to one relationships.
  • Ability to present and write information in a clear and precise manner.
  • Ability to critically appraise research findings, draw out significance for clinical practice and implement research findings.
  • Ability to develop practice and give feedback to clinicians and managers.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate an ability to make decisions.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and stressful situations.
  • Ability to support and challenge work practices in a credible and nonthreatening way.
