At GB Railfreight, we are looking for an exceptional Business Development Manager to drive and deliver our business growth plan and significantly build upon our existing multi-million pound haulage contracts, as well as developing, designing and seeking out new market opportunities.
This role can be based in our London, Peterborough, or Doncaster office, with regular travel.

Responsibilities- Building and maintaining key new business opportunities within the company Sales Pipeline, delivering forecasted and non-forecasted sales opportunities.
- Driving revenue generation in multiple markets by exploiting new and existing relationships whilst discovering new lines of business opportunity.
- Developing opportunities in new-to-rail markets, resulting in improving GBRf's market standing and affording the ability for greater investment to drive further growth.
- Ensuring an ambitious five year business plan is developed and deliverable to ensure wider business revenue growth is delivered.
- Ongoing market analysis and industry knowledge to build expertise that is unparalleled amongst market competition.
- Ensure GB Railfreight are the first point of call for new and existing rail freight opportunities by building industry trust, expertise and strong relationships.
- Ensure that market users trust in our business brand and values, to deliver on their demands and optimise the wider GB Railfreight proposal.
- Long term engagement with key industry customers and stakeholders, with clear strategies specific to each opportunity and customer.
- Negotiate commercial terms for sales opportunities ensuring a contract is drafted with input of the internal legal team, with a clear handover to the Commercial function prior to commencement of services.
- Work closely with the Business Implementation, Commercial team and other key internal stakeholders to ensure we design innovative responses to sales opportunities, including full responsibility for pricing services.
- Accurate use of internal Customer Database (CRM) to build tailored sales strategies that are translatable to the executive.
- Offer effective challenge and critique of Sales Teams opportunities whereby support and insight is offered to improve likelihood of converting sales opportunities.
- Managing the full circle customer experience including engagement and deal closing.
- Act as a brand ambassador by championing the company values and inspiring others within the organisation.
- Maintain effective targeting and pipeline management processes, ensuring 'next steps selling' is applied to increase conversions, transaction values and creation of sustainable accounts.
- Work as a 'prolific connector' within and outside the Railway and engage in a wide range of networking events to build relationships with Rail professionals across multiple organisations.

Your Experience
- Experience of business and customer relationship/account development at senior levels and ability to forge strong, deep relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers.
- Track record of building key accounts from scratch with customers and delivering continued profitable growth.
- Previous experience of working within Transport and/or Logistics consulting. Previous experience, working as a Railway professional highly desirable.
- Experience in producing high quality customer proposals and commercial deals, covering multiple services over longer term contract periods.
- Management of modern Sales Systems (Salesforce, MS CRM, etc.) and application of long term sales methodologies.
