Job Description
Commercial and Strategic Advisory - Clean Molecules

About Baringa:
We set out to build the world's most trusted consulting firm - creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.

You'll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk, or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their organisations tick - slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.

As a Certified B Corporation, we've proven that we've built social and environmental good into every bit of what we do.

We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world - from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there's a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.

Our Power and Low Carbon Solutions practice is looking for Senior Consultants - Senior Managers to join our Clean Molecules advisory practice

Our market leading Power and Low Carbon Solutions (PLCS) team is looking to hire Senior Consultants/Managers/Senior Managers to support the growth of our market and commercial advisory offering in clean molecules value chains across our growing European Hubs: Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal) and Northern European (focus on Germany, Benelux and Nordics) markets.

You will be joining our dynamic and growing Power and Low Carbon Solutions practice. We work with a range of clients from across the energy value chain, covering utilities, oil & gas companies, network companies, commodities traders, industrials and institutional investors; to help them successfully navigate the energy transition. Baringa is differentiated through its ability to leverage our fundamental understanding of market, technical, commercial and regulatory drivers of value and risk to help clients develop projects, deploy capital or launch new products and services that help decarbonize our economy.

What you will be doing
Deep decarbonization of "hard-to-abate" sectors - industrial process & manufacturing, heavy goods transport, waste management - will require the deployment of novel technologies and value chains that are currently in their infancy; Hydrogen, E-Fuels, Biofuels, Carbon Capture and Storage. We are building a market leading multidisciplinary "Clean Molecules" team that brings investment grade market, technical, regulatory and commercial advice to client mandates across the project investment lifecycle; from understanding these emerging and interconnected market opportunities, to optimizing the development and investment approach for specific projects or portfolios; with the ultimate aim of helping unlock capital to these (often) first-of-a-kind projects and create value across these complex value chains. We are a flexible and non-hierarchical team with a collaborative and curious ethos and a global perspective.

We are looking to hire people to deliver the most exciting strategy and commercial engagements advising Oil & Gas companies, utilities, IPPs, developers, financial investors and lenders. Our strategy and commercial proposition cover, among others, the following:

  • Deals Strategy (M&A and debt financing);
  • Investment or development strategy;
  • Commercial optimisation and offtake structuring;
  • Policy design, support & advocacy;
  • Bid advisory & competitor analysis / benchmarking.

With a focus on delivering engagements in the Iberian Peninsula or Northern Europe (subject to the location of the candidate), you will be part of our Global Clean Molecules Team, which brings you the opportunity to work hands-on with a team of dedicated specialists, in Hydrogen, E-Fuels, Biofuels, CCS. As such, you will be actively involved in developing knowledge sharing and capabilities for the wider team, as well as supporting career growth and development of junior team members.

Adjusted to your grade/experience, you will be involved in business development prospects, from building our brand presence and engaging with key clients in the region, to identifying/originating consulting opportunities and writing proposals.

Moreover, whereas your focus will be participating in Clean Molecules engagement, you will have the opportunity to work across our Power & Low Carbon Solutions practice gaining exposure in the broader clean infrastructure space (e.g. Solar PV, Wind, BESS).

Your skills and experience
We recruit individuals at all levels based on merit. Don't worry about 'fitting into a quota'; if you can demonstrate some of the skills we are after we would love to hear from you. Some of the key skills we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated background in the clean infrastructure space working as:
    • Strategy consultant or M&A advisor (BIG-4 / Strategy Consulting firms)
    • Corporate development / M&A in energy companies
    • Principal investor in P.E./Infra funds
  • A fundamental understanding of the Clean Molecules space and key value drivers. Awareness of key players, projects and market drivers globally, but particularly Iberian Peninsula or Northern European Markets (subject to the candidates' location).
  • Demonstrate project management, business acumen, analytical capabilities, and excellence in people management and career development.
  • Excellent communication skills, being able to provide clear recommendations to clients on deal key value drivers, risks and upsides.
  • Flexibility and ability to shuffle different priorities within a fast-paced environment.

What a career at Baringa will give you
Putting People First.
Baringa is a People First company and wellbeing is at the forefront of our culture. We recognise the importance of work-life balance and flexible working and provide our staff amazing benefits. Some of these benefits include:

  • Generous Annual Leave Policy: We recognise everyone needs a well-deserved break. We provide our employees with 5 weeks of annual leave, fully available at the start of each year. In addition to this, we have introduced our 5-Year Recharge benefit which allows all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.
  • Flexible Working: We know that the 'ideal' work-life balance will vary from person to person and change at different stages of our working lives. To accommodate this, we have implemented a hybrid working policy and introduced more flexibility around taking unpaid leave.
  • Corporate Responsibility Days: Our world is important to us, so all our employees get 3 every year to help social and environmental causes and increase our impact on the communities that mean the most to us.
  • Wellbeing Fund: We want to encourage all employees to take charge and prioritise their own wellbeing. We've introduced our annual People Fund to support this by offering every individual a fund to support and manage their wellbeing through an activity of their choice.
  • Career Progression: No one develops at the same pace. That's why we have quarterly rather than annual promotion reviews. We don't have any quotas: if you're ready and delivering at the right level, you'll get that promotion.
  • Profit Share Scheme: All employees participate in the Baringa Group Profit Share Scheme so everyone has a stake in the company's success.
