On a quiet square in the heart of the historic Bloomsbury district, The Goodenough Hotel is a sophisticated 65-bedroom luxury hotel steeped in history dating back to the 18th century. Comprising a row of five Georgian townhouses, The Goodenough offers a peaceful sanctuary a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle of London life. The Goodenough is owned and operated by Goodenough College, an educational charity supporting postgraduate international students, and the Hotel plays a significant role in the financial stability of the College.
The Hotel seeks a General Manager who will be responsible for the development, management and delivery of the Hotel business and its operations. This will include self-delivering the Hotel's sales and marketing activities to ensure the delivery of optimal RevPAR to achieve the highest possible surplus contribution to the College's charitable aims.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Hotel team to high performance by effectively managing the Operations and Revenue managers, ensuring successful execution of departmental duties to meet key objectives.
- Ensuring that the Hotel has policies and SOPs of a standard that ensure service and revenue management standards consistently meet and exceed guest expectations and drive forward business targets.
- Ensuring that all staff receive regular training and robust performance management.
- Leading on the development of Hotel product and service delivery improvements, including managing the Hotel's brand and physical design.
- Developing and executing sales and marketing campaigns with clear deliverables, measurable outcomes, and strong return on investment.
- Preparing the Hotel's annual operation budget, setting short and long term financial targets and monitoring performance against the goals, managing the commercial activity and commercial development of the Hotel.
- Overseeing delivery and development of the Goodenough College short stay accommodation business.
- Ensuring the Hotel is fully compliant with health and safety, fire regulations and statutory expectations.
The Hotel General Manager will be supported by the Goodenough College team (including Estates, HR, Contract Management and Finance) in the delivery of their role.

Essential qualities applicants must demonstrate are:
- Significant hotel experience at senior manager level with relevant hospitality qualification and strong strategic thinking, along with excellent communication skills; capacity to articulate and implement business and commercial plans.
- Ability to be hands-on in developing and delivering successful relevant sales and marketing activities to increase Hotel revenue.
- Ability to motivate and lead teams to consistently deliver exceptional service in fast-paced and demanding commercial environments.
- Knowledge of Hotel best practice and outstanding customer service.
This role attracts a salary of £70,000 per annum, free meals when on shift, 26.5 days' annual leave, additional leave days for Christmas, pension contributions, income protection, life assurance and discounted stays and gym membership.
The Hotel currently operates a non-contractual commercial incentive scheme (OTE 10% of salary).
