Job Purpose

Egg is a leader in the renewable energy sector, helping Private & Public Sector entities achieve their sustainability goals through innovative technology and strategic partnerships.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering to join our team. In this role, you will lead and inspire our engineering team, drive technical excellence, and collaborate closely with product management and design to deliver cutting-edge solutions that address customer needs. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping the future of Egg's technological landscape, ensuring robust and scalable systems that support our ambitious growth plans.

Key Accountabilities

1. Build, lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineering leaders, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
2. Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear goals, and provide professional development opportunities.

1. Guide the engineering team in agile practices, ensuring adherence to Scrum or Kanban methodologies with continuous release cycles.
2. Ensure teams are running sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to enhance team productivity and delivery.
3. Work closely with product management and design leadership to build the strategy for Product Engineering.
4. Focus on solving customer problems through rapid testing and learning frameworks.
5. Create technical solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and meet customer needs.
6. Oversee the development and operation of cloud-based systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
7. Implement best practices for cloud architecture and infrastructure management.

1. Set the bar in coding practices, focusing on developing high-quality, maintainable code.
2. Provide guidance on the full software development lifecycle.
3. Ensure that the technology architecture is fit for the ongoing needs of the business.

1. Manage relationships with key stakeholders, communicating technical concepts and project progress effectively.
2. Ensure alignment between engineering deliverables and business objectives.

1. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation within the team.
2. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging experimentation and learning.

Knowledge & Experience

1. Minimum of 8 years in a senior software engineering role, with at least 5 years of line management experience.
2. Proven track record of leading engineering teams in an agile environment, excluding experience limited to "SAFe" or "Less" frameworks.
3. At least 2 years of experience working in a startup, demonstrating the ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

1. Expert proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Java).
2. Experience with cloud technologies and managing cloud-hosted systems.
3. Full-stack development experience is a bonus.
4. Experience in the energy industry is a bonus.
5. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
6. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
