Job Overview

As the IT Director for a main contractor, you will lead and manage the company's IT strategy, infrastructure, and systems to support construction projects, business operations, and future growth. You will oversee the IT department, ensuring that technology aligns with the overall business goals, enhances operational efficiency, and meets industry standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and an understanding of the construction industry's unique IT needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • IT Strategy & Planning:
    • Develop and implement the company's IT strategy in alignment with business objectives and project needs.
    • Identify opportunities for technology innovations that can improve operational efficiency and competitiveness in the construction sector.
    • Collaborate with senior management to integrate IT initiatives with business plans and projects.
    • Implementation and management of a robust IT Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Technology Infrastructure & Systems:
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems, networks, and infrastructure, ensuring their reliability, scalability, and security.
    • Evaluate and recommend appropriate hardware, software, and services to support project management, supply chain, and construction processes.
    • Manage cloud solutions and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems specific to the construction industry, such as project management platforms.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance:
    • Ensure the company's IT systems and data are secure from internal and external threats, establishing strong cybersecurity protocols.
    • Oversee regulatory compliance related to data protection, privacy, and industry-specific regulations.
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure systems meet compliance standards and protect the company's sensitive project data.
    • Mangement of ISO270001 and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications.
  • Project Management & Support:
    • Lead the implementation of new IT systems, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
    • Provide technical support and resources to project teams to ensure seamless execution of construction projects.
    • Implement and manage Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems, project collaboration tools, and other construction-specific software.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage the IT team, fostering professional growth and ensuring that the team delivers high-quality services.
    • Build cross-functional collaboration with other departments such as finance, project management, and operations to integrate IT initiatives.
  • Vendor Management & Budgeting:
    • Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring high performance.
    • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with the company's financial goals.
  • Digital Transformation & Innovation:
    • Drive digital transformation initiatives within the company, identifying emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and automation that can improve construction project delivery and business operations.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging the adoption of new tools and technologies that can provide a competitive advantage.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in IT management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
    • Proven experience within the construction or engineering sector is highly desirable.
    • Expertise in managing large-scale IT systems, infrastructure, and digital transformation projects.
    • Hands-on experience with construction industry software like BIM, ERP systems, and project management platforms.

    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and cybersecurity best practices.
    • Project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage large, complex projects.
