The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a chartered Mechanical Engineer who is looking for technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects, to become a permanent member of our creative, friendly Building Engineering Team in London.

You will work on some of the most exciting and innovative buildings across the world with leading architects. The team are currently involved in projects world-wide from feasibility stage through to practical completion. Current and recent projects include residential and social infrastructure projects such as Ebury Bridge Estate and Canada Water; rail projects such as Sydney Metro, Copenhagen Metro and Euston Station; air projects such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Athens airports; commercial developments such as 6-8 Bishopsgate, 90 Long Acre; and a variety of projects such as large refurbishments in buildings, residential projects with high sustainability targets and developing and delivering decarbonisation strategies. The focus of our work is split between new build developments and retrofit/refurbishment projects, given the drive towards both increasing sustainable solutions and supporting our clients reduce the carbon impact of their buildings.

You will be actively involved in driving the design and delivery of building services systems with exposure to all aspects of your discipline as well as developing system strategies, including communication with the project team and relevant parties.

In this role you will be:

  • Leading design and delivery of building services systems with experience of all aspects of your discipline
  • Developing system strategies, including collaborating with project team and relevant parties including architects, cost consultants, project managers and specialist disciplines
  • Directing the comfort and thermal analysis of buildings and spaces
  • Overseeing the spatial and technical co-ordination of building services and integration into the design
  • Managing the production of models, drawings, reports and specifications to budgets and deadlines
  • Supervising and coordinating the work of others, including other disciplines and in-house specialists
  • Planning projects/activities and resources, e.g. time, people and skills
  • Supporting project directors in the overall delivery of projects

Is this role right for you?

You are an enthusiastic engineer who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams and taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results. You will have several years of post-chartership background in the field of Building Services Engineering and have a broad range of hands-on experience in systems, installations and project sectors. You actively support the performance, work and development of others, providing guidance, training, and motivational and directional feedback.

We're looking for a candidate with experience in:

  • Designing mechanical services such has heating, cooling, ventilation etc on a wide range of buildings, from inception to completion
  • Managing teams on multi-disciplinary projects and working as part of a larger team
  • Predicting, planning and managing resource requirements and change to achieve financial targets
  • Using and leading the use of energy modelling software, like IES

Who also:

  • Has strong technical knowledge and an interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon, challenging yourself and the rest of the design team to achieve optimum project outcomes
  • Demonstrates creative and inquisitive attitude with an interest and awareness of building design beyond your own discipline, integrating demands into holistically coordinated solutions
  • Has strong commercial and contract awareness
  • Shows interest in developing and integrating digital tools into workflows to streamline ways of working
