Research and Development Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research & Development (R&D) Manager to join our client in Great Yarmouth. The successful candidate will report to the Group Products & Technology (P&T) Director and be responsible for driving product-orientated initiatives, focussing on both the enhancement of existing products and the development of new, innovative solutions. The Research & Development Manager will be responsible for the initiation, planning, execution and successful completion of new product development projects - in accordance with the NPD stage gate process.
The applicant will need to demonstrate a results -orientated leadership, in a fast-paced environment and must have a strong emphasis on product improvement and new product design.
Main Responsibilities
â Oversee the development process of new in-house products ("NPD") from ideation to launch within the stage gate process.
â Innovate and conceptualize new product designs to maintain competitiveness in the market.
â Lead efforts in enhancing the performance and features of existing products.
â Managing a team of R&D Electronic Development, and Software Engineers, which includes setting and monitoring objectives, annual reviews and ensuring day to day people management tasks are completed.
â Ensuring the team are fully motivated, committed and are a high performing, reliable team.
â Responsible for department recruitment, training and other line management responsibilities.
â Responsible for handover of all deliverables to successfully launch new products, including design verification, bills of materials, manufacture build & test procedures and staff training.
â Project management of new product developments including labour resource, time and material budgets.
Requirements of Role
â Qualified to Degree level or equivalent in Engineering BEng / Meng (Electrical & Electronics Engineering preferred), or Physics/Maths BSc/MSc.
â Practical experience with electronic assemblies, firmware & software is essential.
â Experience of complex project management.
â Track record with staff supervision, management & mentoring.
â 5+ years experience in relevant engineering development role.
â Experience within marine / survey industry preferred
